But he said: I have plenty, my brother; keep what is thine for thyself.


And the third day he brought them out of prison, and said: Do as I have said, and you shall live; for I fear God.


And Jezabel sent a messenger to Elias, saying: Such and such things may the gods do to me, and add still more, if by this hour to-morrow I make not thy life as the life of one of them.


And he said: Whether they come for peace, take them alive: or whether they come to fight, take them alive.


But the former governors that had been before me were chargeable to the people; and took of them in bread, and wine, and in money every day forty sicles: and their officers also oppressed the people. But I did not so for the fear of God.


There was a man in the land of Hus, whose name was Job: and that man was simple and upright, and fearing God, and avoiding evil.


And he said to man: Behold, the fear of the Lord, that is wisdom: and to depart from evil, is understanding.


As a neighbour and as an own brother, so did I please: as one mourning and sorrowful so was I humbled.


The turning away of little ones shall kill them, and the prosperity of fools shall destroy them.


The innocent believeth every word: the discreet man considereth his steps. No good shall come to the deceitful son: but the wise servant shall prosper in his dealings, and his way shall be made straight.


The impatient man shall work folly: and the crafty man is hateful.


The path of the just departeth from evils: he that keepeth his soul keepeth his way.


By mercy and truth iniquity is redeemed: and by the fear of the Lord men depart from evil.


The prudent man saw the evil, and hid himself: the simple passed on, and suffered loss.


Blessed is the man that is always fearful: but he that is hardened in mind, shall fall into evil.


If a wise man contend with a fool, whether he be angry or laugh, he shall find no rest.


Be not wise in thy own conceit: fear God, and depart from evil:


Immediately he followeth her as an ox led to be a victim, and as a lamb playing the wanton, and not knowing that he is drawn like a fool to bonds,


The beginning of his words is folly, and the end of his talk is a mischievous error.


And when the ass saw the angel standing, she fell under the feet of the rider: who being angry beat her sides more vehemently with a staff.


And some of the Pharisees, who were with him, heard: and they said unto him: Are we also blind?


From all appearance of evil refrain yourselves.
