But when he was made strong, his heart was lifted up to his destruction: and he neglected the Lord his God. And going into the temple of the Lord, he had a mind to burn incense upon the altar of incense.


These sought the writing of their genealogy, and found it not: and they were cast out of the priesthood.


And he lifted up his hand over them: to overthrow them in the desert;


And in the morning you shall see the glory of the Lord. For he hath heard your murmurings against the Lord: but as for us, what are we, that you mutter against us?


AND there shall come forth a rod out of the root of Jesse: and a flower shall rise up out of his root.


And I will visit the evils of the world, and against the wicked for their iniquity: and I will make the pride of infidels to cease, and will bring down the arrogancy of the mighty.


When they shall rush in unto Jacob, Israel shall blossom and bud: and they shall fill the face of the world with seed.


Therefore, as the tongue of the fire devoureth the stubble, and the heat of the flame consumeth it: so shall their root be as ashes, and their bud shall go up as dust: for they have cast away the law of the Lord of hosts, and have blasphemed the word of the Holy One of Israel.


And they shall burn thy houses with fire and shall execute judgments upon thee in the sight of many women: and thou shalt cease from fornication and shalt give no hire any more.


And I will put an end to thy wickedness in thee and thy fornication brought out of the land of Egypt: neither shalt thou lift up thy eyes to them, nor remember Egypt any more.


I will heal their breaches, I will love them freely: for my wrath is turned away from them.


When you are to go forward, the Levites shall take down the tabernacle: when you are to camp, they shall set it up. What stranger soever cometh to it shall be slain.


In the mean time there arose a murmuring of the people against the Lord, as it were repining at their fatigue. And when the Lord heard it, he was angry. And the fire of the Lord being kindled against them, devoured them that were at the uttermost part of the camp.


And that all thy company should stand against the Lord? For what is Aaron that you murmur against him?


And speaking to Core and all the multitude, he said: In the morning the Lord will make known who belong to him, and the holy he will join to himself. And whom he shall choose, they shall approach to him.


And the Lord said to Moses: Carry back the rod of Aaron into the tabernacle of the testimony, that it may be kept there for a token of the rebellious children of Israel: and that their complaints may cease from me, lest they die.


And Moses spoke to the children of Israel: and all the princes gave him rods one for every tribe. And there were twelve rods besides the rod of Aaron.


He returned on the following day, and found that the rod of Aaron for the house of Levi was budded: and that the buds swelling, it had bloomed blossoms, which spreading the leaves, were formed into almonds.


Neither do you murmur: as some of them murmured, and were destroyed by the destroyer.


You shall answer them: The waters of the Jordan ran off before the ark of the covenant of the Lord, when it passed over the same. Therefore were these stones set for a monument of the children of Israel for ever.
