And Ezechias said: It is an easy matter for the shadow to go forward ten lines; and I do not desire that this be done: but let it return back ten degrees.


And Isaias the prophet called upon the Lord; and he brought the shadow ten degrees backwards by the lines, by which it had already gone down in the dial of Achaz.


And Isaias said to him: This shall be the sign from the Lord, that the Lord will do the word which he hath spoken: Wilt thou that the shadow go forward ten lines, or that it go back so many degrees?


And Baria, and Sama were heads of their kindreds that dwelt in Aialon: these drove away the inhabitants of Geth.


Saraa also, and Aialon, and Hebron, which are in Juda and Benjamin, well fenced cities.


Who commandeth tile sun and it riseth not: and shutteth up the stars as it were under a seal.


Praise ye him, O sun and moon: praise him, all ye stars and light.


May he be mindful of all thy sacrifices: and may thy whole burnt offering be made fat.


For the Lord shall stand up as in the mountain of divisions: he shall be angry as in the valley which is in Gabaon: that he may do his work, his strange work: that he may perform his work, his work is strange to him.


Behold, I will bring again the shadow of the lines, by which it is now gone down in the sun-dial of Achaz with the sun, ten lines backward. And the sun returned ten lines by the degrees by which it was gone down.


Thy sun shall go down no more and thy moon shall not decrease. For the Lord shall be unto thee for an everlasting light: and the days of thy mourning shall be ended.


And it came to pass in that year in the beginning of the reign of Sedecias king of Juda, in the fourth year, in the fifth month, that Hananias the son of Azur, a prophet of Gabaon, spoke to me, in the house of the Lord, before the priests and all the people, saying:


Yet I cast out the Amorrhite before their face: whose height was like the height of cedars, and who was strong as an oak: and I destroyed his fruit from above, and his roots beneath.


And it shall come to pass in that day, saith the Lord God, that the sun shall go down at midday, and I will make the earth dark in the day of light:


But the Lord is in his holy temple: let all the earth keep silence before him.


The sun and the moon stood still in their habitation, in the light of thy arrows, they shall go in the brightness of thy glittering spear.


Let all flesh be silent at the presence of the Lord: for he is risen up out of his holy habitation.


So as to go and serve strange gods, and adore them, the sun and the moon, and all the host of heaven, which I have not commanded:


Lest perhaps lifting up thy eyes to heaven thou see the sun and the moon, and all the stars of heaven, and being deceived by error thou adore and serve them, which the Lord thy God created for the service of all the nations, that are under heaven.


And the sun and the moon stood still, till the people revenged themselves of their enemies. Is not this written in the book of the just? So the sun stood still in the midst of heaven, and hasted not to go down the space of one day.

So they smote that day the Philistines from Machmas to Ailon. And the people were wearied exceedingly.
