And said before his brethren, and the multitude of the Samaritans: What are the silly Jews doing? Will the Gentiles let them alone? Will they sacrifice and make an end in a day? Are they able to raise stones out of the heaps of the rubbish, which are burnt?


Unto the end, for them that shall he changed, a testimony for Asaph, a psalm.


And owls shall answer one another there, in the houses thereof, and sirens in the temples of pleasure.


For thou hast reduced the city to a heap, the strong city to ruin, the house of strangers; to be no city and to be no more built up for ever.


And thorns and nettles shall grow up in its houses, and the thistle in the fortresses thereof: and it shall be the habitation of dragons and the pasture of ostriches.


That raise up the word of my servant and perform the counsel of my messengers, who say to Jerusalem: Thou shalt be inhabited; and to the cities of Juda: You shall be built, and I will raise up the wastes thereof.


For, behold, I will call together all the families of the kingdoms of the north, saith the Lord: and they shall come, and shall set every one his throne in the entrance of the gates of Jerusalem and upon all the walls thereof round about and upon all the cities of Juda.


Behold, the sound of a noise cometh, a great commotion out of the land of the north: to make the cities of Juda a desert and a dwelling for dragons.


And when thou shalt tell this people all these words and they shall say to thee: Wherefore hath the Lord pronounced against us all this great evil? What is our iniquity? and what is our sin, that we have sinned against the Lord our God?


And all this land shall be a desolation and an astonishment: and all these nations shall serve the king of Babylon seventy years.


To wit, Jerusalem and the cities of Juda and the kings thereof and the princes thereof: to make them a desolation and an astonishment and a hissing and a curse, as it is at this day.


Micheas of Morasthi was a prophet in the days of Ezechias king of Juda, and he spoke to all the people of Juda, saying: Thus saith the Lord of hosts: Sion shall be ploughed like a field, and Jerusalem shall be a heap of stones, and the mountain of the house, the high places of woods.


Why hath he prophesied in the name of the Lord, saying: This house shall be like Silo, and this city shall be made desolate without an inhabitant? And all the people were gathered together against Jeremias in the house of the Lord.


Behold, I will command, saith the Lord, and I will bring them again to this city: and they shall fight against it and take it and burn it with fire. And I will make the cities of Juda a desolation, without an inhabitant.


For thus saith the Lord: All the land shall be desolate, but yet I will not utterly destroy.


Thus saith the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel: You have seen all this evil that I have brought upon Jerusalem and upon all the cities of Juda. And, behold, they are desolate this day, and there is not an inhabitant in them:


And Asor shall be a habitation for dragons, desolate for ever: no man shall abide there, nor son of man inhabit it.


For a nation is come up against her out of the north, which shall make her land desolate. And there shall be none to dwell therein, from man even to beast: yea, they are removed and gone away.


And Babylon shall be reduced to heaps, a dwelling-place for dragons, an astonishment and a hissing, because there is no inhabitant.


Is there no balm in Galaad? Or is no physician there? Why then is not the wound of the daughter of my people closed?


Daleth. The ways of Sion mourn, because there are none that come to the solemn feast: all her gates are broken down: her priests sigh: her virgins are in affliction and she is oppressed with bitterness.


Beth. The Lord hath cast down headlong and hath not spared all that was beautiful in Jacob: he hath destroyed in his wrath the strongholds of the virgin of Juda and brought them down to the ground: he hath made the kingdom unclean, and the princes thereof.


Phe. Prophecy is become to us a fear and a snare and destruction.


And I will destroy your land: and your enemies shall be astonished at it, when they shall be the inhabitants thereof.


And I will make Samaria as a heap of stones in the field when a vineyard is planted: and I will bring down the stones thereof into the valley, and will lay her foundations bare.


Therefore, because of you, Sion shall be ploughed as a field, and Jerusalem shall be as a heap of stones, and the mountain of the temple as the high places of the forests.


For thou hast kept the statutes of Amri, and all the works of the house of Achab: and thou hast walked according to their wills, that I should make thee a desolation, and the inhabitants thereof a hissing, and you shall bear the reproach of my people.


Burning it with brimstone, and the heat of salt, so that it cannot be sown any more, nor any green thing grow therein, after the example of the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrha, Adama and Seboim, which the Lord destroyed in his wrath and indignation:


And he cried out with a strong voice, saying: Babylon the great is fallen, is fallen; and is become the habitation of devils, and the hold of every unclean spirit, and the hold of every unclean and hateful bird:
