And dividing his company, he rushed upon them in the night: and defeated them, and pursued them as far as Hoba, which is on the left hand of Damascus.


And Abram said: Lord God, what wilt thou give me? I shall go without children: and the son of the steward of my house is this Damascus Eliezer.


And the most valiant man whose heart is as the heart of a lion shall melt for fear: for all the people of Israel know thy father to be a valiant man, and that all who are with him are valiant.


And Thou the king of Emath heard that David had defeated all the forces of Adarezer.


And he gathered men against him, and he became a captain of robbers, when David slew them of Soba. And they went to Damascus, and dwelt there: and they made him king in Damascus.


And the king of the Assyrians brought people from Babylon, and from Cutha, and from Avah, and from Emath, and from Sepharvaim: and placed them in the cities of Samaria instead of the children of Israel. And they possessed Samaria, and dwelt in the cities thereof.


Where is the god of Emath, and of Arphad? Where is the god of Sepharvaim, of Ana, and of Ava? Have they delivered Samaria out of my hand?


Where is the king of Emath, and the king of Arphad, and the king of the city of Sepharvaim, of Ana and of Ava?


Are not the Abana, and the Pharphar, rivers of Damascus, better than all the waters of Israel, that I may wash in them, and be made clean? So, as he turned and was going away with indignation,


Then Asa brought out silver and gold out of the treasures of the house of the Lord, and of the king's treasures, and sent to Benadad king of Syria, who dwelt in Damascus, saying:


Then were the princes of Edom troubled, trembling seized on the stout men of Moab: all the inhabitants of Chanaan became stiff.


Are not my princes as so many kings? Is not Calano as Charcamis, and Emath as Arphad? Is not Samaria as Damascus?


And it shall come to pass in that day, that the Lord shall set his hand the second time to possess the remnant of his people, which shall be left from the Assyrians, and from Egypt, and from Phetros, and from Ethiopia, and from Elam, and from Sennaar, and from Emath, and from the islands of the sea.


Therefore shall all hands be faint: and every heart of man shall melt,


Where is the god of Emath and of Arphad? Where is the god of Sepharvaim? Have they delivered Samaria out of my hand?


Where is the king of Emath, and the king of Arphad, and the king of the city of Sepharvaim, of Ana, and of Ava?


But the wicked are like the raging sea which cannot rest: and the waves thereof cast up dirt and mire.


But the head of Syria is Damascus, and the head of Damascus is Rasin: and within threescore and five years, Ephraim shall cease to be a people:


But the army of the Chaldeans pursued after them: and they took Sedecias in the plain of the desert of Jericho. And when they had taken him, they brought him to Nabuchodonosor, king of Babylon to Reblatha, which is in the land of Emath: and he gave judgment upon him.


The men of Damascus were thy merchants in the multitude of thy works, in the multitude of divers riches, in rich wine, in wool of the best colour.


Pass ye over to Chalane, and see, and go from thence into Emath the great: and go down into Geth of the Philistines, and to all the best kingdoms of these: if their border be larger than your border.


She is destroyed, and rent, and torn: the heart melteth, and the knees fail, and all the loins lose their strength: and the faces of them all are as the blackness of a kettle.


The ground, fat or barren, woody or without trees. Be of good courage, and bring us of the fruits of the land. Now it was the time when the first ripe grapes are fit to be eaten.


And when neither sun nor stars appeared for many days, and no small storm lay on us, all hope of our being saved was now taken away.


And asked of him letters to Damascus, to the synagogues: that if he found any men and women of this way, he might bring them bound to Jerusalem.


At Damascus, the governor of the nation under Aretas the king, guarded the city of the Damascenes, to apprehend me.


After these things are declared they shall add the rest, and shall speak to the people: What man is there that is fearful, and faint-hearted? Let him go, and return to his house, lest he make the hearts of his brethren to fear, as he himself is possessed with fear.


But my brethren, that had gone up with me, discouraged the heart of the people: and I nevertheless followed the Lord my God.


And hearing these things we were affrighted, and our heart fainted away: neither did there remain any spirit in us at your coming in. For the Lord your God he is God in heaven above, and in the earth beneath.
