And when Sichem, the son of Hemor the Hevite, the prince of that land, saw her, he was in love with her: and took her away, and lay with her, ravishing the virgin.


And when his brethren abode in Sichem feeding their father's flocks,


Wherefore Hanon took the servants of David, and shaved off the one half of their beards, and cut away half of their garments even to the buttocks, and sent them away.


And Roboam went to Sichem: for thither were all Israel come together to make him king.


And Jeroboam built Sichem in mount Ephraim, and dwelt there: and going out from thence he built Phanuel.


And he bought the hill of Samaria of Semer for two talents of silver. And he built upon it, and he called the city which he built Samaria, after the name of Semer, the owner of the hill.


Now Achab the son of Amri reigned over Israel in the eight and thirtieth year of Asa king of Juda. And Achab the son of Amri reigned over Israel in Samaria two and twenty years.


And he burnt the house of the Lord, and the king's house, and the houses of Jerusalem: and every house he burnt with fire.


Wherefore Hanon shaved the heads and beards of the servants of David, and cut away their garments from the buttocks to the feet, and sent them away.


for he knoweth our frame. He remembereth that we are dust:


The house is gone up, and Dibon to the high places, to mourn over Nabo: and over Medaba Moab hath howled. On all their heads shall be baldness, and every beard shall be shaven.


Both the great and the little shall die in the land. They shall not be buried nor lamented: and men shall not cut themselves nor make themselves bald for them.


And on the second day after he had killed Godolias, no man yet knowing it,


Baldness is come upon Gaza: Ascalon hath held her peace with the remnant of their valley. How long shalt thou cut thyself?


For every head shall be bald and every beard shall be shaven: all hands shall be tied together and upon every back there shall be haircloth.


Go ye to my place in Silo, where my name dwelt from the beginning: and see what I did to it for the wickedness of my people Israel.

Be ye children of the Lord your God. You shall not cut yourselves, nor make any baldness for the dead;


And all the children of Israel assembled together in Silo. And there they set up the tabernacle of the testimony: and the land was subdued before them.


And the bones of Joseph, which the children of Israel had taken out of Egypt, they buried in Sichem, in that part of the field which Jacob had bought of the sons of Hemor the father of Sichem, for a hundred young ewes: and it was in the possession of the sons of Joseph.


And the idol of Michas remained with them all the time that the house of God was in Silo. In those days there was no king in Israel.


And Abimelech, the son of Jerobaal, went to Sichem, to his mother's brethren, and spoke to them, and to all the kindred of his mother's father, saying:


And thus she did every year, when the time returned that they went up to the temple of the Lord; and thus she provoked her. But Anna wept, and did not eat.
