4 And the princes said to the king: We beseech thee that this man may be put to death: for on purpose he weakeneth the hands of the men of war that remain in this city and the hands of the people, speaking to them according to these words. For this man seeketh not peace to this people, but evil.

And Achab said to Elias: Hast thou found me thy enemy? He said: I have found thee, because thou art sold, to do evil in the sight of the Lord.


And they gathered themselves together against him, and stoned him at the king's commandment in the court of the house of the Lord.


Be it known to the king, that the Jews, who came up from thee to us, are come to Jerusalem a rebellious and wicked city, which they are building, setting up the ramparts thereof and repairing the walls.


For all these men thought to frighten us, thinking that our hands would cease from the work, and that we would leave off. Wherefore I strengthened my hands the more.


The king of Egypt said to them: Why do you, Moses and Aaron, draw off the people from their works? Get you gone to your burdens.


Therefore thus saith the Lord to the men of Anathoth, who seek thy life and say: Thou shalt not prophesy in the name of the Lord and thou shalt not die in our hands.


But thou, O Lord, knowest all their counsel against me unto death. Forgive not their iniquity, and let not their sin be blotted out from thy sight. Let them be overthrown before thy eyes: in the time of thy wrath do thou destroy them.


And the priests and the prophets spoke to the princes and to all the people, saying: The judgement of death is for this man, because he hath prophesied against this city, as you have heard with your ears.


And seek the peace of the city to which I have caused you to be carried away captives and pray to the Lord for it: for in the peace thereof shall be your peace.


Then king Sedecias swore to Jeremias, in private, saying: As the Lord liveth, that made us this soul, I will not put thee to death, nor will I deliver thee into the hands of these men that seek thy life.


But if the princes shall hear that I have spoken with thee, and shall come to thee and say to thee: Tell us what thou hast said to the king. Hide it not from us, and we will not kill thee. And also what the king said to thee:


But Baruch the son of Nerias setteth thee on against us, to deliver us into the hands of the Chaldeans, to kill us and to cause us to be carried away captives to Babylon.


Her princes in the midst of her are like wolves ravening the prey to shed blood and to destroy souls and to run after gains through covetousness.


And Amasias the priest of Bethel sent to Jeroboam king of Israel, saying: Amos hath rebelled against thee in the midst of the house of Israel: the land is not able to bear all his words.


And they began to accuse him, saying: We have found this man perverting our nation, and forbidding to give tribute to Caesar, and saying that he is Christ the king.


And presenting them to the magistrates, they said: These men disturb our city, being Jews;


And not finding them, they drew Jason and certain brethren to the rulers of the city, crying: They that set the city in an uproar, are come hither also;


We have found this to be a pestilent man, and raising seditions among all the Jews throughout the world, and author of the sedition of the sect of the Nazarenes.


But we desire to hear of thee what thou thinkest; for as concerning this sect, we know that it is every where contradicted.
