Therefore God is the leader in our army, and his priests who sound with trumpets, and resound against you: O children of Israel, fight not against the Lord the God of your fathers, for it is not good for you.


The spirit of God then came upon Zacharias the son of Joiada the priest. And he stood in the sight of the people, and said to them: Thus saith the Lord God: Why transgress you the commandment of the Lord which will not be for your good, and have forsaken the Lord, to make him forsake you?


There is no wisdom, there is no prudence, there is no counsel against the Lord.


For from thence thou shalt go, and thy hand shall be upon thy head: for the Lord hath destroyed thy trust, and thou shalt have nothing prosperous therein.


They shall be carried to Babylon, and there they shall be until the day of their visitation, saith the Lord: and I will cause them to be brought and to be restored in this place.


Behold, works are built up against the city to take it: and the city is given into the hands of the Chaldeans, who fight against it, by the sword, and the famine, and the pestilence. And what thou hast spoken is all come to pass, as thou thyself seest.


And Jeremias said: The word of the Lord came to me, saying:


Of them that come to fight with the Chaldeans and to fill them with the dead bodies of the men whom I have slain in my wrath and in my indignation, hiding my face from this city because of all their wickedness.


Now when the army of the Chaldeans was gone away from Jerusalem, because of Pharao's army,


And when Sedecias the king of Juda and all the men of war saw them, they fled: and they went forth in the night out of the city, by the way of the king's garden, and by the gate that was between the two walls: and they went out to the way of the desert.


But the army of the Chaldeans pursued after them: and they took Sedecias in the plain of the desert of Jericho. And when they had taken him, they brought him to Nabuchodonosor, king of Babylon to Reblatha, which is in the land of Emath: and he gave judgment upon him.


He also put out the eyes of Sedecias: and bound him with fetters, to be carried to Babylon.


Nun. The yoke of my iniquities hath watched: they are folded together in his hand and put upon my neck. My strength is weakened: the Lord hath delivered me into a hand out of which I am not able to rise.


And the prince that is in the midst of them shall be carried on shoulders: he shall go forth in the dark. They shall dig through the wall to bring him out: his face shall be covered, that he may not see the ground with his eyes.


And I will spread my net over him, and he shall be taken in my net: and I will bring him into Babylon, into the land of the Chaldeans. And he shall not see it: and there he shall die.


But he hath revolted from him and sent ambassadors to Egypt, that it might give him horses and much people. And shall he that hath done thus prosper or be saved? And shall he escape that hath broken the covenant?


And Moses said to them: Why transgress you the word of the Lord, which shall not succeed prosperously with you?
