So Abraham, rising up in the night, saddled his ass: and took with him two young men, and Isaac his son. And when he had cut wood for the holocaust, he went his way to the place which God had commanded him.


(And the king of Israel said to his servants: Know ye not that Ramoth Galaad is ours, and we neglect to take it out of the hand of the king of Syria?)


And the Lord testified to them in Israel and in Juda by the hand of all the prophets and seers, saying: Return from your wicked ways, and keep my precepts, and ceremonies, according to all the law which I commanded your fathers; and as I have sent to you in the hand of my servants the prophets.


And he sent prophets to them to bring them back to the Lord, and they would not give ear when they testified against them.


Josias was eight years old when he began to reign; and he reigned one and thirty years in Jerusalem.


And in the eighth year of his reign, when he was yet a boy, he began to seek the God of his father David: and in the twelfth year after he began to reign, he cleansed Juda and Jerusalem from the high places, and the groves, and the idols, and the graven things.


Now in the eighteenth year of his reign, when he had cleansed the land, and the temple of the Lord, he sent Saphan the son of Eselias, and Maasias the governor of the city, Joha the son of Joachaz the recorder, to repair the house of the Lord his God.


And the Lord the God of their fathers sent to them, by the hand of his messengers, rising early, and daily admonishing them: because he spared his people and his dwelling-place.


The Lord also said to Moses: Arise early, and stand before Pharao; for he will go forth to the waters. And thou shalt say to him: Thus saith the Lord: Let my people go to sacrifice to me.


Why do you spend money for that which is not bread and your labour for that which doth not satisfy you? Hearken diligently to me and eat that which is good: and your soul shall be delighted in fatness.


The word of the Lord which came to him in the days of Josias the son of Amon king of Juda, in the thirteenth year of his reign.


For protesting I conjured your fathers in the day that I brought them out of the land of Egypt even to this day: rising early, I conjured them, and said: Hearken ye to my voice.


Thus saith the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel: Behold, I will bring in upon this city, and upon all the cities thereof all the evils that I have spoken against it: because they have hardened their necks, and they might not hear my words.


I spoke to thee in thy properity: and thou saidst: I will not hear. This hath been thy way from thy youth, because thou hast not heard my voice.


And the Lord hath sent to you all his servants the prophets, rising early and sending, and you have not hearkened nor inclined your ears to hear.


To give ear to the words of my servants the prophets whom I sent to you, rising up early and sending, and you have not hearkened:


Because they have not hearkened to my words, saith the Lord, which I sent to them by my servants the prophets, rising by night and sending: and you have not heard, saith the Lord.


And they have turned their backs to me, and not their faces, when I taught them early in the morning and instructed them: and they would not hearken to receive instruction.


The words of Jonadab the son of Rechab, by which he commanded his sons not to drink wine, have prevailed: and they have drunk none to this day, because they have obeyed the commandment of their father: but I have spoken to you, rising early and speaking, and you have not obeyed me.


And I have sent to you all my servants the prophets, rising early, and sending and saying: Return ye every man from his wicked way and make your ways good, and follow not strange gods nor worship them: and you shall dwell in the land: which I gave you and your fathers. And you have not inclined your ear, nor hearkened to me.


And it came to pass in the fourth year of Joakim the son of Josias king of Juda that this word came to Jeremias by the Lord, saying:


Take thee a roll of a book: and thou shalt write in it all the words that I have spoken to thee against Israel and Juda and against all the nations, from the day that I spoke to thee, from the days of Josias even to this day.


And I sent to you all my servants the prophets, rising early and sending, and saying: Do not commit this abominable thing which I hate.


And now, because you have done all these works, saith the Lord: and I have spoken to you, rising up early and speaking, and you have not heard: and I have called you, and you have not answered:


From the day that their fathers came out of the land of Egypt even to this day. And I have sent to you all my servants the prophets from day to day, rising up early and sending.


Then he that heareth the sound of the trumpet, whosoever he be, and doth not look to himself, if the sword come, and cut him off: his blood shall be upon his own head.


Be not as your fathers, to whom the former prophets have cried, saying: Thus saith the Lord of hosts: Turn ye from your evil ways, and from your wicked thoughts: but they did not give ear, neither did they hearken to me, saith the Lord.


And rising very early, going out, he went into a desert place: and there he prayed.


And early in the morning he came again into the temple, and all the people came to him, and sitting down he taught them.


He that is of God, heareth the words of God. Therefore you hear them not, because you are not of God.


Preach the word: be instant in season, out of season: reprove, entreat, rebuke in all patience and doctrine.
