And the Lord thundered from heaven, and the highest gave his voice: hail and coals of fire.


They have set fire to thy sanctuary: they have defiled the dwelling place of thy name on the earth.


Better is a dry morsel with joy, than a house full of victims with strife.


I vowed victims for prosperity, this day I have paid my vows.


Rejoice therefore, O young man, in thy youth, and let thy heart be in that which is good in the days of thy youth, and walk in the ways of thy heart, and in the sight of thy eyes: and know that for all these God will bring thee into judgment.


And, behold, joy and gladness, killing calves and slaying rams, eating flesh and drinking wine: Let us eat and drink; for to-morrow we shall die.


And the Lord said: Because the daughters of Sion are haughty, and have walked with stretched out-necks and wanton glances of their eyes, and made a noise as they walked with their feet, and moved in a set pace:


And now hear these things, thou that art delicate, and dwellest confidently, that sayest in thy heart: I am, and there is none else besides me; I shall not sit as a widow, and I shall not know barrenness.


Come, let us take wine, and be filled with drunkenness: and it shall be as to-day, so also to-morrow, and much more.


And thou, O Lord, hast known me, thou hast seen me and proved my heart with thee: gather them together as sheep for a sacrifice, and prepare them for the day of slaughter.


Howl, ye shepherds, and cry, and sprinkle yourselves with ashes, ye leaders of the flock: for the days of your slaughter and your dispersion are accomplished and you shall fall like precious vessels.


Behold, this was the iniquity of Sodom thy sister, pride, fulness of bread and abundance, and the idleness of her and of her daughters: and they did not put forth their hand to the needy and to the poor.


And thou, O son of man, saith the Lord God, say to every fowl, and to all the birds, and to all the beasts of the field: Assemble yourselves, make haste, come together from every side to my victim, which I slay for you, a great victim upon the mountains of Israel: to eat flesh, and drink blood.


Woe to you that are wealthy in Sion, and to you that have confidence in the mountain of Samaria: ye great men, heads of the people, that go in with state into the house of Israel.


There was a certain rich man, who was clothed in purple and fine linen; and feasted sumptuously every day.


And Abraham said to him: Son, remember that thou didst receive good things in thy lifetime, and likewise Lazarus evil things, but now he is comforted; and thou art tormented.


Let us walk honestly, as in the day: not in rioting and drunkenness, not in chambering and impurities, not in contention and envy:


For she that liveth in pleasures, is dead while she is living.


Traitors, stubborn, puffed up, and lovers of pleasures more than of God:


Receiving the reward of their injustice, counting for a pleasure the delights of a day: stains and spots, sporting themselves to excess, rioting in their feasts with you:


These are spots in their banquets, feasting together without fear, feeding themselves, clouds without water, which are carried about by winds, trees of the autumn, unfruitful, twice dead, plucked up by the roots,


As much as she hath glorified herself, and lived in delicacies, so much torment and sorrow give ye to her; because she saith in her heart: I sit a queen, and am no widow; and sorrow I shall not see.


And Abigail came to Nabal. And, behold, he had a feast in his house, like the feast of a king, and Nabal's heart was merry: for he was very drunk. And she told him nothing less or more until morning.


And you shall say: Peace be to my brethren, and to thee, and peace to thy house, and peace to all that thou hast.
