I will put enmities between thee and the woman, and thy seed and her seed: she shall crush thy head, and thou shalt lie in wait for her heel.


All they that saw me have laughed me to scorn: they have spoken with the lips, and wagged the head.


For if thou hadst desired sacrifice, I would indeed have given it: with burnt offerings thou wilt not be delighted.


But draw near hither, you, sons of the sorceress, the seed of the adulterer and of the harlot.


Go, and cry in the ears of Jerusalem, saying: Thus saith the Lord: I have remembered thee, pitying thy youth and the love of thy espousals, when thou followedst me in the desert, in a land that is not sown.


Who will give me in the wilderness a lodging-place of wayfaring men, and I will leave my people and depart from them, because they are all adulterers, an assembly of transgressors?


But as an adulteress that bringeth in strangers over her husband.


And the Lord said to me: Go yet again, and love a woman beloved of her friend, and an adulteress: as the Lord loveth the children of Israel, and they look to strange gods, and love the husks of the grapes.


Who answering said to them: An evil and adulterous generation seeketh a sign: and a sign shall not be given it, but the sign of Jonas the prophet.


A wicked and adulterous generation seeketh after a sign: and a sign shall not be given it, but the sign of Jonas the prophet. And he left them, and went away.


No man can serve two masters. For either he will hate the one, and love the other: or he will sustain the one, and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon.


But as for those my enemies, who would not have me reign over them, bring them hither, and kill them before me.


If you had been of the world, the world would love its own: but because you are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, therefore the world hateth you.


I have given them thy word, and the world hath hated them, because they are not of the world; as I also am not of the world.


The world cannot hate you; but me it hateth: because I give testimony of it, that the works thereof are evil.


For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son; much more, being reconciled, shall we be saved by his life.


Because the wisdom of the flesh is an enemy to God; for it is not subject to the law of God, neither can it be.


Where is the wise? Where is the scribe? Where is the disputer of this world? Hath not God made foolish the wisdom of this world?


For seeing that in the wisdom of God the world, by wisdom, knew not God, it pleased God, by the foolishness of our preaching, to save them that believe.


For do I now persuade men, or God? Or do I seek to please men? If I yet pleased men, I should not be the servant of Christ.


Religion clean and undefiled before God and the Father, is this: to visit the fatherless and widows in their tribulation: and to keep one's self unspotted from this world.
