And when they had eaten up all the corn, which they had brought out of Egypt, Jacob said to his sons: Go again and buy us a little food.


If therefore thou wilt send him with us, we will set out together, and will buy necessaries for thee.


But if thou wilt not, we will not go: for the man, as we have often said, declared unto us, saying: You shall not see my face without your youngest brother.


And thou saidst to thy servants: Except your youngest brother come with you, you shall see my face no more.


But the king said: Let him return unto his house, and let him not see my face. So Absalom returned into his house, and saw not the king's face.


And Absalom dwelt two years in Jerusalem, and saw not the king's face.


And Absalom answered Joab: I sent to thee beseeching thee to come to me, that I might send thee to the king, to say to him: Wherefore am I come from Gessur? It had been better for me to be there. I beseech thee therefore that I may see the face of the king: and if he be mindful of my iniquity, let him kill me.


And he said: Very well. I will make a league with thee; but one thing I require of thee, saying: Thou shalt not see my face before thou bring Michol the daughter of Saul. And so thou shalt come, and see me.


And now behold, I know that all you, among whom I have gone preaching the kingdom of God, shall see my face no more.


Being grieved most of all for the word which he had said, that they should see his face no more. And they brought him on his way to the ship.


Seeing I have seen the affliction of my people which is in Egypt, and I have heard their groaning, and am come down to deliver them. And now come, and I will send thee into Egypt.
