And he took ten camels of his master's herd, and departed, carrying something of all his goods with him; and he set forth and went on to Mesopotamia to the city of Nachor.


Who, when he was forty years old, took to wife Rebecca the daughter of Bathuel the Syrian, of Mesopotamia, sister to Laban.


And to the children of the concubines he gave gifts, and separated them from Isaac his son, while he yet lived, to the east country.


In the mean time, God said to Jacob: Arise, and go up to Bethel, and dwell there, and make there an altar to God, who appeared to thee when thou didst flee from Esau thy brother.


And he built there an altar, and called the name of that place, The house of God: for there God appeared to him when he fled from his brother.


And the wisdom of Solomon surpassed the wisdom of all the Orientals and of the Egyptians,


Go then, and eat thy bread with joy, and drink thy wine with gladness: because thy works please God.


Jacob fled into the country of Syria, and Israel served for a wife, and was a keeper for a wife.


And taking up his parable, he said: Balac king of the Moabites hath brought me from Aram, from the mountains of the east: Come, said he, and curse Jacob: Make haste and detest Israel.


And when Israel had sown, Madian and Amalec and the rest of the eastern nations came up.


Now all Madian, and Amalec, and the eastern people were gathered together: and passing over the Jordan, camped in the valley of Jezrael.


But Madian and Amalec, and all the eastern people lay scattered in the valley, as a multitude of locusts. Their camels also were innumerable as the sand that lieth on the sea-shore.


But Zebee and Salmana were resting with all their army. For fifteen thousand men were left of all the troops of the eastern people, and one hundred and twenty thousand warriors that drew the sword were slain.
