And Abraham took sheep and oxen, and gave them to Abimelech: and both of them made a league.


Therefore that place was called Bersabee: because there both of them did swear.


And Abimelech, and Phicol, the general of his army, arose and returned to the land of the Palestines. But Abraham planted a grove in Bersabee, and there called upon the name of the Lord God eternal.


And he had possessions of sheep and of herds, and a very great family. Wherefore the Palestines, envying him,


And when very many days were passed, and he abode there, Abimelech king of the Palestines, looking out through a window, saw him playing with Rebecca his wife.


Come therefore, let us enter into a league: that it may be for a testimony between me and thee.


The God of Abraham, and the God of Nachor, the God of their father, judge between us. And jacob swore by the fear of his father Isaac.


And when Pharao had sent out the people, the Lord led them not by the way of the land of the Philistines which is near: thinking lest perhaps they would repent, if they should see wars arise against them, and would return into Egypt.


And the children of Israel did evil again in the sight of the Lord: and he delivered them into the hands of the Philistines forty years.


And David and Jonathan made a covenant: for he loved him as his own soul.
