And Isboseth the son of Saul heard that Abner was slain in Hebron: and his hands were weakened. And all Israel was troubled.


And they set the altar of God upon its bases, while the people of the lands round about put them in fear: and they offered upon it a holocaust to the Lord morning and evening.


And they hired counsellors against them, to frustrate their design all the days of Cyrus king of Persia, even until the reign of Darius king of the Persians.


And our enemies said: Let them not know, nor understand, till we come in the midst of them, and kill them, and cause the work to cease.


And said before his brethren, and the multitude of the Samaritans: What are the silly Jews doing? Will the Gentiles let them alone? Will they sacrifice and make an end in a day? Are they able to raise stones out of the heaps of the rubbish, which are burnt?


For all these men thought to frighten us, thinking that our hands would cease from the work, and that we would leave off. Wherefore I strengthened my hands the more.


And the princes said to the king: We beseech thee that this man may be put to death: for on purpose he weakeneth the hands of the men of war that remain in this city and the hands of the people, speaking to them according to these words. For this man seeketh not peace to this people, but evil.
