And Juda did evil in the sight of the Lord, and provoked him above all that their fathers had done, in their sins which they committed.


But hast done evil above all that were before thee, and hast made thee strange gods and molten gods, to provoke me to anger, and hast cast me behind thy back:


For all the sins of Baasa, and the sins of Ela his son, who sinned, and made Israel to sin, provoking the Lord, the God, of Israel, with their vanities.


And he walked in all the way of Jeroboam the son of Nabat, and in his sins wherewith he made Israel to sin: to provoke the Lord the God of Israel to anger with their vanities.


And they burnt incense there upon altars after the manner of the nations which the Lord had removed from their face. And they did wicked things, provoking the Lord.


And they rejected his ordinances and the covenant that he made with their fathers, and the testimonies which he testified against them. And they followed vanities, and acted vainly. And they followed the nations that were round about them, concerning which the Lord had commanded them that they should not do as they did.


And he made his son pass through fire. And he used divination, and observed omens, and appointed pythons, and multiplied soothsayers to do evil before the Lord, and to provoke him.


Because they have forsaken me, and have sacrificed to strange gods, provoking me by all the works of their hands: therefore my indignation shall be kindled against this place, and shall not be quenched.


For this shall every one that is holy pray to thee in a seasonable time. And yet in a flood of many waters, they shall not come nigh unto him.


A people that continually provoke me to anger before my face: that immolate in gardens and sacrifice upon bricks:


They shall all proved together to be senseless and foolish: the doctrine of their vanity is wood.


Are there any among the graven things of the Gentiles that can send rain? Or can the heavens give showers? Art not thou the Lord our God, whom we have looked for? For thou hast made all these things.


Because my people have forgotten me, sacrificing in vain, and stumbling in their ways, in ancient paths, to walk by them in a way not trodden:


If a nation hath changed their gods, and indeed they are not gods: but my people have changed their glory into an idol.


How can I be merciful to thee? Thy children have forsaken me and swear by them that are not gods: I fed them to the full, and they committed adultery and rioted in the harlot's house.


The children gather wood, and the fathers kindle the fire and the women knead the dough, to make cakes to the queen of heaven, and to offer libations to strange gods, and to provoke me to anger.


Behold the voice of the daughter my people from a far country: Is not the Lord in Sion, or is not her king in her? Why then have they provoked me to wrath with their idols and strange vanities?


And the likeness of a hand was put forth and took me by a lock of my head: and the spirit lifted me up between the earth and the heaven and brought me in the vision of God into Jerusalem, near the inner gate that looked toward the north, where was set the idol of jealousy, to provoke to jealousy.


And the number of the children of Israel shall be as the sand of the sea, that is without measure, and shall not be numbered. And it shall be in the place where it shall be said to them: You are not my people: it shall be said to them: Ye are the sons of the living God.


When my soul was in distress within me, I remembered the Lord: that my prayer may come to thee, unto thy holy temple.


And when I had begun to speak, the Holy Ghost fell upon them, as upon us also in the beginning.


Who in times past suffered all nations to walk in their own ways.


But I say: Hath not Israel known? First, Moses saith: I will provoke you to jealousy by that which is not a nation; by a foolish nation I will anger you.


As in Osee he saith: I will call that which was not my people, my people; and her that was not beloved, beloved; and her that had not obtained mercy, one that hath obtained mercy.


Do we provoke the Lord to jealousy? Are we stronger than he? All things are lawful for me, but all things are not expedient.


They provoked him by strange gods: and stirred him up to anger, with their abominations.


They sacrificed to devils and not to God: to gods whom they knew not: that were newly come up, whom their fathers worshipped not.


And turn not aside after vain things which shall never profit you, nor deliver you, because they are vain.
