17 Then let thy handmaid say, that the word of the Lord the king be made as a sacrifice. For even as an angel of God, so is my lord the king, that he is neither moved with blessing nor cursing. Wherefore the Lord thy God is also with thee.

And the king answering said to the woman: Hide not from me the thing that I ask thee. And the woman said to him: Speak, my lord the king.


That I should come about with this form of speech, thy servant Joab, commanded this: but thou, my lord, O king, art wise, according to the wisdom of an angel of God, to understand all things upon earth.


Moreover he hath also accused me thy servant to thee, my lord the king: but thou my lord the king, art as an angel of God. Do what pleaseth thee.


For all of my father's house were no better than worthy of death before my lord the king; and thou hast set me thy servant among the guests of thy table. What just complaint therefore have I? Or what right to cry any more to the king?


And all Israel heard the judgment which the king had judged: and they feared the king, seeing that the wisdom of God was in him to do judgment.


Give therefore to thy servant an understanding heart, to judge thy people, and discern between good and evil. For who shall be able to judge this people, thy people which is so numerous?


And you shall not find iniquity in my tongue: neither shall folly sound in my mouth.


As silver is tried in the fining-pot and gold in the furnace: so a man is tried by the mouth of him that praiseth. The heart of the wicked seeketh after evils, but the righteous heart seeketh after knowledge.


A man that speaketh to his friend with flattering and dissembling words, spreadeth a net for his feet.


But strong meat is for the perfect; for them who by custom have their senses exercised to the discerning of good and evil.


As we obeyed Moses in all things, so will we obey thee also: only be the Lord thy God with thee, as he was with Moses.


And Achis answering said to David: I know that thou art good in my sight, as an angel of God; but the princes of the Philistines have said: He shall not go up with us to the battle.
