We all die, and like waters that return no more we fall down into the earth. Neither will God have a soul to perish, but recalleth; meaning that he that is cast off should not altogether perish.


And it came to pass after these things, that Benadad king of Syria gathered together all his army, and went up, and besieged Samaria.


So they arose in the evening, to go to the Syrian camp, And when they were come to the first part of the camp of the Syrians, they found no man there.


And there were some of Manasses that went over to David, when he came with the Philistines against Saul to fight. But he did not fight with them: because the lords of the Philistines taking counsel sent him back, saying: With the danger of our heads he will return to his master Saul.


If I go forth into the fields behold the slain with the sword: and if I enter into the city, behold them that are consumed with famine. The prophet also and the priest are gone into a land which they knew not.


Why do we sit still? Assemble yourselves, and let us enter into the fenced city, and let us be silent there. For the Lord our God hath put us to silence and hath given us water of gall to drink: for we have sinned against the Lord.


Who can tell if God will turn, and forgive: and will turn away from his fierce anger, and we shall not perish?


And as it is appointed unto men once to die, and after this the judgment:
