Then Jacob was greatly afraid; and in his fear divided the people that was with him, and the flocks, and the sheep, and the oxen, and the camels, into two companies,

A psalm of David when he was in the desert of Edom.


Thus will I bless thee all my life long: and in thy name I will lift up my hands.


He shall judge the poor of the people, and he shall save the children of the poor: and he shall humble the oppressor.


And he shall continue with the sun, and before the moon, throughout all generations.


And Moses cried to the Lord, saying: What shall I do to this people? Yet a little more and they will stone me.


The name of the Lord is a strong tower: the just runneth to it, and shall be exalted.


Because thou hast been a strength to the poor, a strength to the needy in his distress, a refuge from the whirlwind, a shadow from the heat. For the blast of the mighty is like a whirlwind beating against a wall.

Now whether we be in tribulation, it is for your exhortation and salvation: or whether we be comforted, it is for your consolation: or whether we be exhorted, it is for your exhortation and salvation, which worketh the enduring of the same sufferings which we also suffer.


In all things we suffer tribulation, but are not distressed; we are straitened, but are not destitute;


For also when we were come into Macedonia, our flesh had no rest, but we suffered all tribulation; combats without, fears within.


So that we may confidently say: The Lord is my helper: I will not fear what man shall do to me.


And the children of Dan said to him: See thou say no more to us, lest men enraged come upon thee, and thou perish with all thy house.


Again Israel, trusting in their strength and their number, set their army in array in the same place, where they had fought before.


As Anna had her heart full of grief, she prayed to the Lord, shedding many tears.


And Jonathan the son of Saul arose, and went to David into the wood, and strengthened his hands in God. And he said to him:


And Samuel said to Saul: Why hast thou disturbed my rest, that I should be brought up? And Saul said: I am in great distress; for the Philistines fight against me; and God is departed from me; and would not hear me, neither by the hand of prophets, nor by dreams. Therefore I have called thee, that thou mayest shew me what I shall do.
