Solomon also spoke three thousand parables. And his verses were one thousand and five.


The parables of Solomon, son of David, king of Israel,


A wise son is the doctrine of his father. But he who ridicules does not listen when he is reproved.


A wise son gladdens the father. But the foolish man despises his mother.


A foolish one is born into his own disgrace. But his father will not rejoice in one who is senseless.


A foolish son is the anger of the father and the grief of the mother who conceived him.


A foolish son is the grief of his father. And an argumentative wife is like a roof that is continually leaking.


These, too, are parables of Solomon, which the men of Hezekiah, king of Judah, transferred.


My son, study wisdom, and rejoice my heart, so that you may be able to respond to the one who reproaches.


The rod and its correction distribute wisdom. But the child who is left to his own will brings shame to his mother.


Teach your son, and he will refresh you, and he will give delight to your soul.


The man who loves wisdom rejoices his father. But whoever nurtures promiscuous women will lose his substance.


And since Ecclesiastes was very wise, he taught the people, and he described what he had accomplished. And while searching, he composed many parables.


though I know not whether he will be wise or foolish. And yet he will have power over my labors, in which I have toiled and been anxious. And is there anything else so empty?
