But from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, you shall not eat. For in whatever day you will eat from it, you will die a death."


Whoever nurtures his servant delicately from childhood, afterwards will find him defiant.


But behold: gladness and rejoicing, the killing of calves and the slaughter of rams, the eating of meat and the drinking of wine: "Let us eat and drink, for tomorrow we will die."


Descend, sit in the dust, O virgin daughter of Babylon! Sit on the ground. There is no throne for the daughter of the Chaldeans. For you shall no longer be called delicate and tender.


I have compared the daughter of Zion to a beautiful and delicate woman.


HE. Those who were fed indulgently have passed away in the roads. Those who were nourished with saffron have welcomed filth.


But Jesus said to him, "Follow me, and allow the dead to bury their dead."


And I will say to my soul: Soul, you have many goods, stored up for many years. Relax, eat, drink, and be cheerful.'


And after not many days, the younger son, gathering it all together, set out on a long journey to a distant region. And there, he dissipated his substance, living in luxury.


For this son of mine was dead, and has revived; he was lost, and is found.' And they began to feast.


But it was necessary to feast and to rejoice. For this brother of yours was dead, and has revived; he was lost, and is found.' "


A certain man was wealthy, and he was clothed in purple and in fine linen. And he feasted splendidly every day.


Then what did you go out to see? A man clothed in soft garments? Behold, those who are in costly apparel and finery are in the houses of kings.


And you were once dead in your sins and offenses,


even when we were dead in our sins, has enlivened us together in Christ, by whose grace you have been saved.


Because of this, it is said: "You who are sleeping: awaken, and rise up from the dead, and so shall the Christ enlighten you."


The man who is pampered and very self-indulgent among you will vie with his own brother, and with the wife who lies at his bosom,


The tender and pampered woman, who would not walk upon the soil, nor step firmly with her foot due to her very great softness and tenderness, will vie with her husband, who lies at her bosom, over the flesh of son and of daughter,


And when you were dead in your transgressions and in the uncircumcision of your flesh, he enlivened you, together with him, forgiving you of all transgressions,


For among these are ones who penetrate houses and lead away, like captives, foolish women burdened with sins, who are led away by means of various desires,


You have feasted upon the earth, and you have nourished your hearts with luxuries, unto the day of slaughter.


As much as she has glorified herself and lived in pleasure, so much so give to her torment and grief. For in her heart, she has said: 'I am enthroned as queen,' and, 'I am not a widow,' and, 'I shall not see sorrow.'


"And to the Angel of the Church of Sardis write: Thus says he who has the seven spirits of God and the seven stars: I know your works, that you have a name which is alive, but you are dead.


And Samuel said, "Bring near to me Agag, the king of Amalek." And Agag, very fat and trembling, was presented to him. And Agag said, "Does bitter death separate in this manner?"


And you shall say: 'Peace be to my brothers and to you, and peace to your house, and peace to whatever you have.
