For I have known him, to the end that he may command his children and his household after him, that they may keep the way of Jehovah, to do righteousness and justice; to the end that Jehovah may bring upon Abraham that which he hath spoken of him.


And he said, Thy name shall be called no more Jacob, but Israel: for thou hast striven with God and with men, and hast prevailed.


O ye seed of Abraham his servant, Ye children of Jacob, his chosen ones.


Thou didst drive out the nations with thy hand; But them thou didst plant: Thou didst afflict the peoples; But them thou didst spread abroad.


Thou broughtest a vine out of Egypt: Thou didst drive out the nations, and plantedst it.


Thou preparedst room before it, And it took deep root, and filled the land.


Thou wilt bring them in, and plant them in the mountain of thine inheritance, The place, O Jehovah, which thou hast made for thee to dwell in, The sanctuary, O Lord, which thy hands have established.


How is the faithful city become a harlot! she that was full of justice! righteousness lodged in her, but now murderers.


In that day: A vineyard of wine, sing ye unto it.


But thou, Israel, my servant, Jacob whom I have chosen, the seed of Abraham my friend,


What could have been done more to my vineyard, that I have not done in it? wherefore, when I looked that it should bring forth grapes, brought it forth wild grapes?


Thy people also shall be all righteous; they shall inherit the land for ever, the branch of my planting, the work of my hands, that I may be glorified.


to appoint unto them that mourn in Zion, to give unto them a garland for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; that they may be called trees of righteousness, the planting of Jehovah, that he may be glorified.


Jehovah called thy name, A green olive-tree, fair with goodly fruit: with the noise of a great tumult he hath kindled fire upon it, and the branches of it are broken.


For Jehovah of hosts, who planted thee, hath pronounced evil against thee, because of the evil of the house of Israel and of the house of Judah, which they have wrought for themselves in provoking me to anger by offering incense unto Baal.

How is the gold become dim! how is the most pure gold changed! The stones of the sanctuary are poured out at the head of every street.


Son of man, what is the vine-tree more than any tree, the vine-branch which is among the trees of the forest?

And Israel served Jehovah all the days of Joshua, and all the days of the elders that outlived Joshua, and had known all the work of Jehovah, that he had wrought for Israel.
