Now therefore come, let me give you advice, that you may save your own life and the life of your son Solomon.
Do you think that mere words are strategy and power for war? In whom do you now trust, that you have rebelled against me?
Where there is no guidance, a people falls, but in an abundance of counselors there is safety.
for by wise guidance you can wage your war, and in abundance of counselors there is victory.
do not hastily bring into court, for what will you do in the end, when your neighbor puts you to shame?
Or what king, going out to encounter another king in war, will not sit down first and deliberate whether he is able with ten thousand to meet him who comes against him with twenty thousand?
And all who saw it said, “Such a thing has never happened or been seen from the day that the people of Israel came up out of the land of Egypt until this day; consider it, take counsel, and speak.”
The people of Israel arose and went up to Bethel and inquired of God, “Who shall go up first for us to fight against the people of Benjamin?” And the Lord said, “Judah shall go up first.”
And the people of Israel went up and wept before the Lord until the evening. And they inquired of the Lord, “Shall we again draw near to fight against our brothers, the people of Benjamin?” And the Lord said, “Go up against them.”
Would that this people were under my hand! Then I would remove Abimelech. I would say to Abimelech, ‘Increase your army, and come out.’”
