And Asa fell sick in the nine and thirtieth year of his reign, of a most violent pain in his feet. And yet in his illness he did not seek the Lord, but rather trusted in the skill of physicians.


For with him is an arm of flesh: with us the Lord our God, who is our helper, and fighteth for us. And the people were encouraged with these words of Ezechias king of Juda.


my soul hath stuck close to thee: thy right hand hath received me.


Cease ye therefore from the man, whose breath is in his nostrils, for he is reputed high.


And they shall be afraid, and ashamed of Ethiopia their hope, and of Egypt their glory.


Lo, thou trustest upon this broken staff of a reed, upon Egypt: upon which if a man lean, it will go into his hand and pierce it. So is Pharao king or Egypt to all that trust in him.


And truth hath been forgotten: and he that departed from evil lay open to be a prey. And the Lord saw, and it appeared evil in his eyes, because there is no judgment.


And thou shalt say to them: Thus saith the Lord, the God of Israel: Cursed is the man that shall not hearken to the words of this covenant,


And they that are saved of you shall remember me amongst the nations to which they are carried captives: because I have broken their heart that was faithless and revolted from me and their eyes that went afornicating after their idols: and they shall be displeased with themselves because of the evils which they have committed in all their abominations.


The beginning of the Lord's speaking by Osse: and the Lord said to Osee: Go, take thee a wife of fornications, and have of her children of fornications: for the land by fornication shall depart from the Lord.
