And there came a messenger to David, saying: All Israel with their whole heart followeth Absalom.
And this he did to all Israel that came for judgment, to be heard by the king: and he enticed the hearts of the men of Israel.
And when all the people came to take meat with David, while it was yet broad day, David swore, saying: So do God to me, and more also, if I taste bread or any thing else before sunset.
And all the people, and all Israel understood that day that it was not the king's doing, that Abner the son of Ner was slain.
And so much the more did they wonder, saying: He hath done all things well; he hath made both the deaf to hear, and the dumb to speak.
