David was told that Ahithophel was among the conspirators with Absalom. And David said, “O Lord, I pray you, turn the counsel of Ahithophel into foolishness.”


The wicked go astray from the womb; they err from their birth, speaking lies.


Each evening they come back, howling like dogs and prowling about the city.


and said to him, “Go through the city, through Jerusalem, and put a mark on the foreheads of those who sigh and groan over all the abominations that are committed in it.”


For they are kindled like an oven, their heart burns within them; all night their anger smolders; in the morning it blazes like a flaming fire.


Why do you make me see wrongdoing and look at trouble? Destruction and violence are before me; strife and contention arise.
