Matthew 27:29
14 Marejeleo ya Msalaba

Because of my love for you, Lord, I have been mocked, cursed, and disgraced.

Yahweh, Israel’s Kinsman-Redeemer and Holy One, says to the one who is deeply despised and repulsed by rulers and a slave to the ruling class: “Kings will see and stand up in respect; princes will bow down to honor the faithfulness of Yahweh, the Holy One of Israel, who has chosen you.”

He was despised and rejected by men, a man of deep sorrows who was no stranger to suffering and grief. We hid our faces from him in disgust and considered him a nobody, not worthy of respect.

Yahweh, you pushed me into being a prophet, and I let you do it. You overpowered me, and now I am overcome. I have become nothing but a joke all day long, with everyone mocking me.

And they will hand him over to the Romans to be mocked, tortured, and crucified. Yet three days later he will be raised to life again.”

Judas quickly stepped up to Jesus and said, “Shalom, Rabbi,” and he kissed him on both cheeks.

Above his head they placed a sign that read, “This is Jesus of Nazareth, King of Israel.”

They placed a purple robe on him to make fun of him. Then they braided a victor’s crown, a wreath made of thorns, and set it on his head.

And with a mock salute they repeatedly cried out, “Hail, your majesty, king of the Jews!”
