19 And seeing a fig tree by the wayside, he went to it and found nothing on it but only leaves. And he said to it, “May no fruit ever come from you again!” And the fig tree withered at once.

He dug it and cleared it of stones, and planted it with choice vines; he built a watchtower in the midst of it, and hewed out a wine vat in it; and he looked for it to yield grapes, but it yielded wild grapes.


When I would gather them, declares the Lord, there are no grapes on the vine, nor figs on the fig tree; even the leaves are withered, and what I gave them has passed away from them.”


When the disciples saw it, they marveled, saying, “How did the fig tree wither at once?”


And he said to it, “May no one ever eat fruit from you again.” And his disciples heard it.


As they passed by in the morning, they saw the fig tree withered away to its roots.


Even now the axe is laid to the root of the trees. Every tree therefore that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire.”


Every branch in me that does not bear fruit he takes away, and every branch that does bear fruit he prunes, that it may bear more fruit.


If anyone does not abide in me he is thrown away like a branch and withers; and the branches are gathered, thrown into the fire, and burned.


having the appearance of godliness, but denying its power. Avoid such people.


They profess to know God, but they deny him by their works. They are detestable, disobedient, unfit for any good work.


These are hidden reefs at your love feasts, as they feast with you without fear, shepherds feeding themselves; waterless clouds, swept along by winds; fruitless trees in late autumn, twice dead, uprooted;


Let the evildoer still do evil, and the filthy still be filthy, and the righteous still do right, and the holy still be holy.”
