and said, “My lords, please turn aside to your servant’s house and spend the night and wash your feet. Then you may rise up early and go on your way.” They said, “No; we will spend the night in the town square.”


Then he said, “Let me go, for the day has broken.” But Jacob said, “I will not let you go unless you bless me.”


who alone stretched out the heavens and trampled the waves of the sea;


He lays the beams of his chambers on the waters; he makes the clouds his chariot; he rides on the wings of the wind;


Mightier than the thunders of many waters, mightier than the waves of the sea, the Lord on high is mighty!


And in the morning watch the Lord in the pillar of fire and of cloud looked down on the Egyptian forces and threw the Egyptian forces into a panic,


“O afflicted one, storm-tossed and not comforted, behold, I will set your stones in antimony, and lay your foundations with sapphires.


but the boat by this time was a long way from the land, beaten by the waves, for the wind was against them.


But know this, that if the master of the house had known in what part of the night the thief was coming, he would have stayed awake and would not have let his house be broken into.


Therefore stay awake—for you do not know when the master of the house will come, in the evening, or at midnight, or when the rooster crows, or in the morning—


And when evening came, the boat was out on the sea, and he was alone on the land.


but when they saw him walking on the sea they thought it was a ghost, and cried out,


If he comes in the second watch, or in the third, and finds them awake, blessed are those servants!


So they drew near to the village to which they were going. He acted as if he were going farther,


who were born, not of blood nor of the will of the flesh nor of the will of man, but of God.


And the next day Saul put the people in three companies. And they came into the midst of the camp in the morning watch and struck down the Ammonites until the heat of the day. And those who survived were scattered, so that no two of them were left together.
