Now therefore, our God, the great, the mighty, and the awesome God, who keeps covenant and lovingkindness, don’t let all the travail seem little before you that has come on us, on our kings, on our princes, on our priests, on our prophets, on our fathers, and on all your people, since the time of the kings of Assyria to this day.


You, who have shown us many and bitter troubles, you will let me live. You will bring us up again from the depths of the earth.


For in YHWH’s hand there is a cup, full of foaming wine mixed with spices. Hᴇ pours it out. Indeed the wicked of the earth drink and drink it to its very dregs.


YHWH God of Armies, how long will you be angry against the prayer of your people?


You brought a vine out of Egypt. You drove out the nations, and planted it.


Will you be angry with us forever? Will you draw out your anger to all generations?


You have renounced the covenant of your servant. You have defiled his crown in the dust.


Awake, awake! Stand up, Jerusalem, you who have drunk from YHWH’s hand the cup of his wrath. You have drunken the bowl of the cup of staggering, and drained it.


Your Lord YHWH, your God who pleads the cause of his people, says, “Look, I have taken out of your hand the cup of staggering, even the bowl of the cup of my wrath. You will not drink it any more.


So YHWH, the God of Israel, said to me: “Take this cup of the wine of wrath from my hand, and make all the nations to whom I send you drink it.


Rejoice and be glad, daughter of Edom, who dwells in the land of Uz. The cup will pass through to you also. You will be drunken, and will make yourself naked.


He has confirmed his words, which he spoke against us and against our judges who judged us, by bringing on us a great evil; for under the whole sky, such has not been done as has been done to Jerusalem.


You are filled with shame, and not glory. You will also drink and be exposed! The cup of YHWH’s right hand will come around to you, and disgrace will cover your glory.
