then he opens the ears of men, and seals their instruction,


who does great things that can’t be fathomed, marvelous things without number;


How precious to me are your thoughts, God! How vast is their sum!


If I would count them, they are more in number than the sand. When I wake up, I am still with you.


I don’t rebuke you for your sacrifices. Your burnt offerings are continually before me.


For you don’t delight in sacrifice, or else I would give it. You have no pleasure in burnt offering.


My mouth will tell about your righteousness, and of your salvation all day, though I don’t know its full measure.


then his master must bring him to God, and bring him to the door or to the doorpost, and his master will bore his ear through with an awl, and he will serve him forever.


“What are y’all’s abundant sacrifices to me?”, says YHWH. “I have had enough of the burnt offerings of rams and the fat of fed animals. I do not delight in the blood of bulls, or of lambs, or of male goats.


YHWH, you are my God. I will exalt you! I will praise your name, for you have done wonderful things, things planned long ago, in complete faithfulness and truth.


Whoever kills an ox is like one who kills a man; whoever sacrifices a lamb, like one who breaks a dog’s neck; whoever offers an offering, like one who offers pig’s blood; whoever burns frankincense, like one who blesses an idol. Yes, they have chosen their own ways, and their soul delights in their abominations.


For I desire mercy, and not sacrifice; and the knowledge of God more than burnt offerings.


Yes, though y’all offer me burnt offerings and meal offerings, I will not accept them; And I have no regard for the y’all’s peace offerings of fattened animals.


But if y’all had known what this means, ‘I desire mercy, and not sacrifice,’ y’all wouldn’t have condemned the innocent.


But y’all go and learn what this means: ‘I desire mercy and not sacrifice.’ For I came not to call the righteous, but sinners.”


Samuel said, “Does YHWH delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices as much as obeying YHWH’s voice? Look! To obey is better than sacrifice, and to listen is better than the fat of rams.
