Joab said to the man who told him, “What! You saw it, and why didn’t you strike him there to the ground? I would have given you ten pieces of silver and a sash.”


Abner said again to Asahel, “Turn away from following me. Why should I strike you to the ground? How then could I look Joab your brother in the face?”


Listen to my cry, for I am in desperate need. Deliver me from my persecutors, for they are too strong for me.


Let those who seek after my soul be disappointed and brought to dishonor. Let those who plot my ruin be turned back and confounded.


For strangers have risen up against me. Violent men have sought after my soul. They haven’t set God before them. Selah.

Rise up, YHWH, in your anger. Lift up yourself against the rage of my adversaries. Wake up for me. You have commanded judgment.

Then ʜᴇ said to me, “Son of humanity, these bones are the whole house of Israel. Look how they say, ‘Our bones are dried up, and our hope is lost. We are completely cut off.’


Don’t rejoice against me, my enemy. When I fall, I will arise. When I sit in darkness, YHWH will be a light to me.
