let seven men of his sons be delivered to us, and we will hang them up to YHWH in Gibeah of Saul, the chosen of YHWH.” The king said, “I will give them.”


He delivered them into the hands of the Gibeonites; and they hanged them on the mountain before YHWH, and all seven of them fell together. They were put to death in the days of harvest, in the first days, at the beginning of barley harvest.


Thus they provoked ʜɪᴍ to anger with their deeds. The plague broke in on them.


Moses chose able men out of all Israel, and made them heads over the people, rulers of thousands, rulers of hundreds, rulers of fifties, and rulers of tens.


Who knows? God may turn and relent, and turn away from his fierce anger, so that we will not perish.”


“Phinehas, the son of Eleazar, the son of Aaron the priest, has turned my wrath away from the children of Israel, in that he was jealous with my jealousy among them, so that I didn’t consume the children of Israel in my jealousy.


for they hve been hostile to y’all with their treachery, when they deceived y’all in the matter of Peor, and in the matter of Cozbi, the daughter of the leader of Midian, their sister, who was killed on the day of the plague in the matter of Peor.”


All Israel will hear, and fear, and they will not do any more wickedness like this among you.


certain wicked fellows have gone out from among you and have drawn away the inhabitants of their city, saying, “Let’s go and serve other gods,” which y’all have not known,


you must strike-strike the inhabitants of that city with the edge of the sword, destroying it utterly, with all that is therein and its livestock, with the edge of the sword.


Nothing of the devoted thing is to cling to your hand, that YHWH may turn from the fierceness of his anger and show you mercy, and have compassion on you and multiply you, as he has sworn to your fathers,


If someone has committed a sin worthy of death and is executed, and you hang them on a tree,


the body must not remain all night on the tree, but you must bury-bury it the same day. For the one who is hanged is cursed by God. Do not defile your land that YHWH your God is giving you for an inheritance.


Y’all’s eyes have seen what YHWH did because of Baal Peor, for YHWH your God destroyed everyone who followed Baal Peor from among you.


Was the sin of Peor too little for us? To this day we have not cleansed ourselves from it although there came a plague on the congregation of YHWH.


Joshua called for all Israel, for their elders and for their heads, and for their judges and for their officers, and said to them, “I am old and well advanced in years.
