Abraham lifted up his eyes, and looked, and saw that behind him was a ram caught in the thicket by his horns. Abraham went and took the ram, and offered him up for a burnt offering instead of his son.


He said, “Now take your son, your only son, Isaac, whom you love, and go into the land of Moriah. Offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains which I will tell you of.”


Then Noah built an altar to YHWH, and took some of every clean animal and every clean bird, and offered burnt offerings on the altar.


Jethro, Moses’ father-in-law, took a burnt offering and sacrifices for God. Aaron came with all the elders of Israel, to eat bread with Moses’ father-in-law before God.


YHWH called to Moses and spoke to him from the Tent of Meeting, saying,


He answered and said, “Must I not take heed to speak that which YHWH puts in my mouth?”


He said to Balak, “Stand here by your burnt offering, while I meet God over there.”


Balak did as Balaam had spoken; and Balak and Balaam offered on every altar a bull and a ram.


But Balaam answered Balak, “Didn’t I tell you, saying, ‘All that YHWH speaks, that I must do?’”


God met Balaam, and he said to him, “I have prepared the seven altars, and I have offered up a bull and a ram on every altar.”


When Balaam saw that it pleased YHWH to bless Israel, he didn’t go, as at the other times, to use divination, but he set his face toward the wilderness.


Again, the devil took him to a very high mountain and showed him all the empires of the world and their grandeur.


but I would not listen to Balaam, so he blessed-blessed y’all, and I delivered y’all from his hand.
