The king stood by the pillar and made a covenant before YHWH to walk after YHWH and to keep his commandments, his testimonies, and his statutes with all his heart and all his soul, to confirm the words of this covenant that were written in this book; and all the people agreed to the covenant.


Now therefore let’s make a covenant with our God to put away all the wives and those who are born of them, according to the counsel of my lord and of those who tremble at the commandment of our God. Let it be done according to the law.


The governor told them that they should not eat of the most holy things until a priest stood up to serve with Urim and with Thummim.


The words of Nehemiah the son of Hacaliah. Now in the month Chislev, in the twentieth year, as I was in Susa the palace,


and that we would not give our daughters to the peoples of the land, nor take their daughters for our sons;


The governor told them not to eat of the most holy things until a priest stood up to minister with Urim and Thummim.


Some from among the heads of fathers’ households gave to the work. The governor gave to the treasury 1,000 darics of gold, 50 basins, and 530 priests’ garments.


Nehemiah the governor, Ezra the priest and scribe, and the Levites who taught the people said to them all, “This day is holy to YHWH y’all’s God. Y’all must not mourn nor weep.” For all the people wept when they heard the words of the law.


Yet for all this, we make a sure covenant, and write it, and our leaders, our Levites, and our priests, seal it.”


Moses wrote all YHWH’s words, then rose up early in the morning and built an altar at the base of the mountain, with twelve pillars for the twelve tribes of Israel.
