On the third day, which was Pharaoh’s birthday, he made a feast for all his servants, and he lifted up the head of the chief cup bearer and the head of the chief baker among his servants.


Then the king made a great feast for all his princes and his servants, even Esther’s feast; and he proclaimed a holiday in the provinces, and gave gifts according to the king’s bounty.


For when Herod had arrested John, he bound him and put him in prison for the sake of Herodias, his brother Philip’s wife.


that he promised with an oath to give her whatever she asked.


They said, “Teacher, Moses said, ‘If a man dies without having any children, his brother must marry the wife and raise up offspring for his brother.’


King Herod heard this, for his name had become known, and he said, “John the Baptizer has risen from the dead, and that is why these powers are at work in him.”


For Herod himself had sent for John to be arrested and bound him in prison for the sake of Herodias, his brother Philip’s wife, because he had married her.


So Herodias set herself against John and wanted to kill him. But she wasn’t able to,


He warned them, saying, “Y’all watch out! Y’all beware of the yeast of the Pharisees and the yeast of Herod.”


At that time, some Pharisees came up and said to Jesus, “You must go and leave this place, because Herod wants to kill you.”


Herod with his soldiers humiliated and mocked him, dressed him in a sumptuous robe, and sent him back to Pilate.


When he found out that Jesus was under Herod’s jurisdiction, he sent him to Herod, who was also in Jerusalem at that time.


In the fifteenth year of the reign of Tiberius Caesar, when Pontius Pilate was governor of Judea, Herod was tetrarch of Galilee, his brother Philip tetrarch of the region of Ituraea and Trachonitis, and Lysanias was tetrarch of Abilene,


But John rebuked Herod the tetrarch, because of Herodias, his brother’s wife, and for all the evil things that Herod had done,


Joanna the wife of Chuzas (Herod’s house manager), Susanna, and many others who provided for them from their resources.


Around this time, King Herod laid his hands on some in the church in order to oppress them,


“The truth is that Herod and Pontius Pilate gathered together in this city with the ethnic groups and the people of Israel against your holy servant Jesus, whom you anointed,
