and tore the kingdom away from David’s house, and gave it you; and yet you have not been as my servant David, who kept my commandments, and who followed me with all his heart, to do that only which was right in my eyes,


But my servant Caleb, because he had another spirit with him and has followed me fully, I will bring him into the land which he entered. His descendants will possess it.


Whoever doesn’t take up their cross and follow after me isn’t worthy of me.


Then Jesus said to his disciples, “If anyone desires to come after me, they must deny themselves, take up their cross, and follow me.


As they were coming out, they found a man from Cyrene named Simon, and they forced him to carry his cross.


Looking at him, Jesus loved him and said to him, “One thing you lack. Go, sell whatever you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.”


Again he called the crowd and said to them, “All y’all listen to me and understand.


“Y’all must make every effort to enter through the narrow door, because, I am telling y’all, many will seek to enter in and will not be able.


In the same way, then, any of y’all who don’t renounce all that you has cannot be my disciple.


When Jesus heard this, he said to him, “Still you lack one thing. Sell everything you have and distribute it to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then you come, follow me.”


While all the people were listening, he said to the disciples,


He said to them all, “Anyone who desires to follow come after must deny themselves and take up their cross daily and follow me.


My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me.


He went out, bearing his cross, to the place called “The Place of a Skull” (which in Hebrew is “Golgotha”).


strengthening the souls of the disciples and encouraging them to continue in the faith, saying, “We must go through many persecutions to enter the Empire of God.”


We know that our old humanity was crucified with him, so that the body of sin was rendered inactive, so that we would no longer be slaves to sin.


And if we are children, then we are heirs—heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ if we suffer with him, so that we may also be glorified with him.


Every day I face death, as surely as I boast about y’all in Christ Jesus our Lord.


Therefore, if food causes my sibling to stumble, I will never eat meat again, so that I don’t cause them to stumble.


For though I was free from all, I made myself a slave to all, that I might gain the more.


I have been crucified with Christ, and it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me. That life which I now live in the flesh, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself up for me.


Those who belong to Christ have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires.


But far be it from me to boast except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, through which the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world.


that I may know him and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings, becoming like him in his death,


However, whatever was a gain to me I know consider a loss for the sake of Christ.


Now I rejoice in my sufferings for y’all’s sake, and fill up on my part what is lacking of Christ’s oppressions in my flesh for his body’s sake, which is the church.


Therefore, y’all must put to death the elements of your earthly nature: sexual immorality, impurity, passions, evil desire, and greed, which is idolatry.


For we hear that some among y’all are living disordered lives. They don’t actually work, but busy themselves with useless matters.


instructing us to deny ungodliness and worldly desires, and to live moderately, righteously, and reverently in this present age,


So, let us go to him outside of the camp, bearing the abuse he bore.


Therefore, since Christ suffered in the flesh, y’all should arm yourselves* also with the same attitude, because the one who has suffered in the flesh has finished with sin,


But inasmuch as y’all share in the suffering of Christ, y’all should rejoice so that at the revelation of his glory y’all may rejoice with exceeding joy.


knowing that my tabernacle will soon be laid aside, as our Lord Jesus Christ made clear to me.


This is how we know what love is: that he laid down his life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for our siblings.


Don’t be afraid of what you are about to suffer. Look! The devil is about to throw some of y’all into prison to test y’all, and y’all will have tribulation for ten days. You are to be faithful to the point of death, and I will give you the crown of life.
