So the people quarreled with Moses, and said, “Y’all give us water to drink.” Moses said to them, “Why do y’all quarrel with me? Why do y’all test YHWH?”


He called the name of the place Massah, and Meribah, because the children of Israel quarreled, and because they tested YHWH, saying, “Is YHWH among us, or not?”


But now we call the arrogant blessed. Indeed, those who do evil are build up, those who test God escape!’”


Then some of the scribes and Pharisees answered, “Teacher, we want to see a sign from you.”


Pharisees came to him to test him. They asked, “Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife for any reason at all?”


When he had entered the temple courts, the chief priests and the elders of the people came to him while he was teaching, and said, “By what authority do you do these things? Who gave you this authority?”


Then the Pharisees went out and plotted how they might trap Jesus in his words.


But Jesus, perceiving their evil intentions, said, “Hypocrites! Why are y’all trying to trap me?


On the same day the Sadducees, who say that there is no resurrection, came to him to ask a question.


Should we pay or shouldn’t we?” But he, knowing their hypocrisy, said to them, “Why do y’all test me? Y’all Bring me a denarius to look at.”


When the scribes and the Pharisees saw that he was eating with the sinners and tax collectors, they said to his disciples, “Why does he eat and drink with tax collectors and sinners?”


He asked the scribes, “What are y’all questioning them about?”


Now, a legal expert stood up to test Jesus, saying, “Teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life?”


Others tested him by asking for a sign from heaven.


Jesus therefore said to him, “Unless y’all see signs and wonders, y’all just won’t believe.”


So they asked him, “Then what sign will you do, so that we may see and believe you? What will you do?


Have any of the rulers or Pharisees believed in him?


They said this to test him, so they would have something to accuse him of. But Jesus stooped down and wrote on the ground with his finger.


But Peter said to her, “Why is it that y’all have agreed together to test the Spirit of the Lord? Look, the feet of those who have buried your husband are at the door, and they will carry you out as well.”


Let us not test Christ, as some of them did, and perished by the serpents.


Y’all must not tempt YHWH y’all’s God, as y’all tempted him in Massah.
