and to speak to the priests of the house of YHWH Almighty and to the prophets, saying, “Should I weep in the fifth month, separating myself, as I have done these so many years?”


Y’all have said, ‘It is futile to serve God,’ and ‘What profit is it that we have followed ʜɪꜱ instructions and that we have walked mournfully before YHWH Almighty?


saying, ‘These who were hired last have worked one hour, and yet you have made them equal to us who have borne the burden of the day and the scorching heat!’


But the older son was enraged and refused to go in. So his father came out and pleaded with him.


But when this son of yours, who has devoured your livelihood with prostitutes comes, you kill the fattened calf for him!’


I tell y’all that in the same way, there will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous people who don’t need repentance.


In the same way, when y’all have done all the things that are commanded, y’all should say, ‘We are unworthy servants. We have only done our duty.’”


Jesus also told this parable to people who were convinced of their own righteousness and despised everyone else:


because I was afraid you, since you are an exacting man. You withdraw what you didn’t deposit, and reap what you didn’t sow.’


Since they were not understanding God’s righteousness and were seeking to establish their own righteousness, they did not submit to the righteousness of God.


For by the works of the law, no flesh will be justified before ʜɪᴍ, for through the law comes the knowledge of sin.


Where then is the boasting? It is shut out. By what sort of law? Of works? No, rather by a law of faith.


I was once alive apart from the law, but when the commandment came, sin came alive, and I died.


Whoever has an ear, let them hear what the Spirit says to the churches. To the one who conquers, I will give of the hidden manna, and I will give them a white stone, and on the stone a new name written which no one knows but the one who receives it.


Because you say, ‘I am wealthy and have become wealthy, and I need nothing.’ But you don’t know that you are wretched, miserable, poor, blind, and naked.
