I say to you, that there will be so much more joy in heaven over one sinner repenting, than over the ninety-nine just, who do not need to repent.


I think not. So too, when you have done all these things that have been taught to you, you should say: 'We are useless servants. We have done what we should have done.' "


Now about certain persons who consider themselves to be just, while disdaining others, he told also this parable:


For I feared you, because you are an austere man. You take up what you did not lay down, and you reap what you did not sow.'


For, being ignorant of the justice of God, and seeking to establish their own justice, they have not subjected themselves to the justice of God.


For in his presence no flesh shall be justified by the works of the law. For knowledge of sin is through the law.


So then, where is your self-exaltation? It is excluded. Through what law? That of works? No, but rather through the law of faith.


Now I lived for some time apart from the law. But when the commandment had arrived, sin was revived,


Whoever has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the Churches. To him who prevails, I will give the hidden manna. And I will give to him a white emblem, and on the emblem, a new name has been written, which no one knows, except the one who receives it.


For you declare, 'I am wealthy, and I have been enriched further, and I have need of nothing.' And you do not know that you are wretched, and miserable, and poor, and blind, and naked.
