“Nevertheless they were disobedient and rebelled against you, cast your law behind their back, killed your prophets that testified against them to turn them again to you, and they committed awful blasphemies.


Yet many years you put up with them, and testified against them by your Spirit through your prophets. Yet they would not listen. Therefore you gave them into the hand of the peoples of the lands.


Let Israel rejoice their Maker. Let the children of Zion be joyful in their King.


Protect me like the pupil of your eye. Hide me in the shadow of your wings,


How precious is your lovingkindness, God! The children of humanity take refuge under the shadow of your wings.


Be merciful to me, God, be merciful to me, for my soul takes refuge in you. Yes, in the shadow of your wings, I will take refuge, until disaster has passed.


Oh that my people would listen to me, that Israel would walk in my ways!


Hᴇ will cover you with ʜɪꜱ feathers. Under ʜɪꜱ wings you will take refuge. Hɪꜱ faithfulness is your shield and rampart.


For thus said Lord YHWH, the Holy One of Israel, “In repentance and rest y’all will be saved. In quietness and trust is y’all’s strength.” But y’all refused,


Why, when I came, was there no one? When I called, why was there no one to answer? Is my hand so short-short, that it cannot redeem? Or do I not have the power to deliver? Look, at my rebuke I dry up the sea. I make the rivers a wilderness. Their fish stink because there is no water, and die of thirst.


“I have struck down y’all’s children in vain. They received no correction. Y’all’s own sword has devoured your* prophets, like a destroying lion.


They fetched Uriah out of Egypt and brought him to Jehoiakim the king, who killed him with the sword and cast his dead body into the graves of the common people.


“The words of Jonadab the son of Rekab that he commanded his sons, not to drink wine, have been observed. To this day they do not drink, because they obey their father’s commandment. But I have spoken to y’all, again and again, and y’all have not obeyed me.


“Therefore YHWH, the God of Armies, the God of Israel, says: ‘Look, I will bring on Judah and on all the inhabitants of Jerusalem all the evil that I have pronounced against them, because I have spoken to them, but they have not heard; and I have called to them, but they have not answered.’”


YHWH says, “Y’all are to stand at the crossroads and look. Ask* about the old paths, where is the good way is. Then y’all must walk in it, and y’all will find rest for your* souls. But they said, ‘We will not walk in it.’


“For these things I weep. My eye, my eye runs down with water, because the comforter who should refresh my soul is far from me. My children are desolate, because the enemy has prevailed.”


It is because of the sins of her prophets and the iniquities of her priests, that have shed the blood of the just in the middle of her.


They called to them, so they went from them. They sacrificed to the Baals, and burned incense to engraved images.


My people are determined to turn from me. Though they call to the Most High, he certainly won’t exalt them.


“Y’all be glad then, children of Zion, and y’all rejoice in YHWH, your* God; for ʜᴇ gives you the early rain in just measure, and ʜᴇ causes the rain to come down for y’all, the early rain and the latter rain, as before.


Y’all must not be like your* ancestors, to whom the former prophets proclaimed, saying: YHWH Almighty says, ‘Y’all must return now from your* evil ways evil deeds.’ But they didn’t hear or listen to me, declares YHWH.


He sent out his servants to call those who were invited to the wedding banquet, but they were unwilling to come.


The rest seized his servants, treated them shamefully, and killed them.


But the older son was enraged and refused to go in. So his father came out and pleaded with him.


They will throw you and your children to the ground, and they will not leave one stone on another within your borders, because you did not recognize the time of your visitation.”


But Jesus turned toward them and said, “Daughters of Jerusalem, y’all must not weep for me, but weep for yourselves and for y’all’s children.


Which one of the prophets didn’t y’all’s ancestors persecute? They even killed those who foretold the coming of the Righteous One, whose betrayers and murderers y’all have now become!


While they stoned him, Stephen called out, “Lord Jesus, receive my spirit!”


And Saul approved of his killing. On that day, a great persecution arose against the church in Jerusalem, and all were scattered throughout the regions of Judea and Samaria, except for the apostles.


Oh that they were wise, that they understood this, that they would consider their latter end!


Oh that there were such a heart in them that they would fear me and keep all my commandments always, that it might be well with them and with their children forever!


Their corpses will be in the street of the great city, which spiritually is called Sodom and Egypt, where also their Lord was crucified.


May YHWH repay your work. And may a full reward be given to you from YHWH, the God of Israel, under whose wings you have come to take refuge.”
