Absalom commanded his servants, saying, “Y’all watch until Amnon’s heart is merry with wine and I tell y’all, ‘Strike Amnon.’ Then y’all must kill him. Don’t be afraid. Haven’t I commanded y’all? Y’all must be courageous and valiant!”


But as for the cities of these peoples that YHWH your God is giving you for an inheritance, you must not allow anything with breath to live.


They answered Joshua, saying, “All that you have commanded us we will do, and wherever you send us we will go.


Haven’t I commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Don’t be afraid. Don’t be dismayed, for YHWH your God is with you wherever you go.”


They burned the city with fire, and all that was in it. Only they put the silver, the gold, and the vessels of bronze and of iron into the treasury of the house of YHWH.


So they set the people, even all the army who was on the north of the city, and their ambush on the west of the city; and Joshua went that night into the middle of the valley.


You are to do to Ai and her king just as you did to Jericho and her king, except y’all may take its goods and its livestock for yourselves*. Set an ambush behind the city.”


The others came out of the city against them, so they were in the middle of Israel, some on this side, and some on that side. They struck them, so that they let none of them remain or escape.


So Joshua burned Ai and made it a heap forever, even a desolation, to this day.


then y’all are to rise up from the ambush and take possession of the city, for YHWH y’all’s God will deliver it into y’all’s hand.


Then Joshua sent them out. They went to set up the ambush, and stayed between Bethel and Ai on the west side of Ai, while Joshua stayed among the people that night.


She sent and called Barak the son of Abinoam out of Kedesh Naphtali and said to him, “Hasn’t YHWH, the God of Israel, commanded, ‘Go and lead the way to Mount Tabor, and take with you ten thousand men from the children of Naphtali and the children of Zebulun?
