18 But y’all must be careful when you are setting apart what is devoted for destruction. If y’all take from the devoted things, y’all will make the camp of Israel devoted for destruction and bring trouble on it.

There was a famine in the days of David for three years, year after year; and David sought the face of YHWH. YHWH said, “It is for Saul, and for his bloody house, because he put the Gibeonites to death.”


Wisdom is better than weapons of war; but one sinner destroys much good.


He said to them, “Y’all pick me up and throw me into the sea. Then the sea will be calm for y’all. I know that it is because of me that this massive storm has come on y’all.”


Love must be sincere, hating what is evil and clinging to what is good.


Therefore “‘Y’all come out from among them, and be separate,’ says the Lord. ‘Y’all must not touch any unclean thing. and I will receive y’all. And,


Y’all must have no fellowship with the unfruitful deeds of darkness, but instead y’all should expose them.


Nothing of the devoted thing is to cling to your hand, that YHWH may turn from the fierceness of his anger and show you mercy, and have compassion on you and multiply you, as he has sworn to your fathers,


If there is among you any man who is unclean from nocturnal emission, then he must go outside of the camp. He must not come within the camp;


You must not bring an abomination into your house and become a devoted thing like it. You must detest-detest it. You must abhor-abhor it, for it is set apart for this.


Pure and undefiled religion before our God and Father is this: to care for orphans and widows in their distress, and to keep oneself unstained by the world.


But the children of Israel committed a trespass in the devoted things; for Achan, the son of Carmi, the son of Zabdi, the son of Zerah, of the tribe of Judah, took some of the devoted things. Therefore YHWH’s anger burned against the children of Israel.


You must get up and consecrate the people. Say, ‘Y’all must consecrate yourselves* for tomorrow, for YHWH, the God of Israel, says, “There are devoted things among y’all, Israel. Y’all cannot stand before y’all’s enemies until y’all have removed the devoted thing from among y’all.”


The one who is caught with the devoted thing will be burned with fire, he and all that he has, because he has transgressed the covenant of YHWH, and because he has done a disgraceful thing in Israel.’”


Joshua said, “Why have you brought trouble on us? YHWH will bring trouble on you today.” All Israel stoned him with stones, and they burned them with fire and stoned them with stones.


Little children, y’all keep yourselves* from idols.


But Saul and the people spared Agag and the best of the sheep, of the cattle, of the fat calves, of the lambs, and all that was good, and were not willing to utterly destroy them; but everything that was vile and refuse, that they destroyed utterly.
