See, I have made you into a new sharp threshing instrument with teeth. You will thresh the mountains, and beat them small, and will make the hills like chaff.


“For, as for your waste and your desolate places, and your land that has been destroyed, surely now that land will be too small for the inhabitants, and those who swallowed you up will be far away.


Many shepherds have destroyed my vineyard. They have trodden my portion under foot. They have made my pleasant portion a desolate wilderness.


They have made it a desolation. It mourns to me, being desolate. The whole land is made desolate, because no one cares.


How long will the land mourn, and the herbs of the whole country wither? Because of the wickedness of those who dwell therein, the animals and birds are consumed; because they said, “He won’t see our latter end.”


The wild donkeys stand on the bare heights. They pant for air like jackals. Their eyes fail, because there is no vegetation.


The young lions have roared at him and raised their voices. They have made his land waste. His cities are burned up, without inhabitant.


They didn’t say, ‘Where is YHWH who brought us up out of the land of Egypt, who led us through the wilderness, through a land of deserts and of pits, through a land of drought and of the shadow of death, through a land that no one passed through, and where no man lived?’


“For the land is full of adulterers; because of the curse the land mourns. The pastures of the wilderness have dried up. Their course is evil, and their might is not right.


For a nation comes up out of the north against her, which will make her land desolate, and no one will dwell in it. They have fled. They are gone, both man and animal.


You are to cut off your hair, and throw it away, and take up a lamentation on the bare heights, because YHWH has rejected and forsaken the generation of ʜɪꜱ wrath.


Oh that I could comfort myself against sorrow! My heart is faint within me.


“For these things I weep. My eye, my eye runs down with water, because the comforter who should refresh my soul is far from me. My children are desolate, because the enemy has prevailed.”


My eyes fail with tears. My heart is troubled. My bile is poured on the earth, because of the destruction of the daughter of my people, because the young children and the infants swoon in the streets of the city.

“If I cause evil animals to pass through the land, and they ravage it and it is made desolate, so that no man may pass through because of the animals—


“You, son of humanity, take up a lamentation over Tyre;


No foot of man will pass through it, nor will any animal foot pass through it. It won’t be inhabited for forty years.


I will make the land a desolation and an astonishment. The pride of her power will cease. The mountains of Israel will be desolate, so that no one will pass through.


In all y’all’s dwelling places, the cities will be laid waste and the high places will be demolished, so that y’all’s altars will be demolished and runed, and y’all’s idols may be broken and cease, and y’all’s incense altars may be cut down, and y’all’s works may be blotted out.


Therefore the land will mourn, and everyone who dwells in it will waste away, with all living things in her, even the animals of the field and the birds of the sky; yes, the fish of the sea also die.


Y’all get dressed and mourn, priests! Y’all wail, ministers of the altar. Y’all come and lie all night in sackcloth, ministers of my God, for the meal offering and the drink offering are withheld from y’all’s God’s house.


YHWH, I cry to you, for the fire has devoured the pastures of the wilderness, and the flame has burned all the trees of the field.


Y’all must listen to this word that I take up for a lament over y’all, O house of Israel:


Therefore YHWH, the God of Armies, the Lord, says: “Wailing will be in all the wide ways. They will say in all the streets, ‘Alas! Alas!’ They will call the farmer to mourning, and those who are skillful in lamentation to wailing.


In that day they will take up a parable against y’all, and lament with a mournful lamentation, saying, ‘We are destroyed-destroyed! My people’s possession is divided up. Indeed he takes it from me and assigns our fields to traitors!’”


Therefore because of y’all, Zion will be plowed like a field, and Jerusalem will become a heap of ruins, and the mountain of the temple like the high places of a forest.
