Yet, YHWH, you know all their plots to kill me. Don’t forgive their iniquity. Don’t blot out their sin from your sight, Let them be overthrown before you. Deal with them in the time of your anger.


Then the princes and all the people said to the priests and to the prophets: “This man is not worthy of death; for he has spoken to us in the name of YHWH our God.”


Then the princes said to the king, “Please let this man be put to death, because he weakens the hands of the men of war who remain in this city, and the hands of all the people, in speaking such words to them; for this man doesn’t seek the welfare of this people, but harm.”


What do y’all think?” They answered, “He is worthy of death!”


They answered him, “If this man weren’t a criminal, we wouldn’t have handed him over to you.”


The Jews answered him, “We have a law, and by our law he must die, because he claimed to be the Son of God.”


The crowd listened to him until he said that. Then they raised their voices and said, “Rid the earth of this guy! He isn’t fit to live!”


But the prophet who speaks a word presumptuously in my name, which I have not commanded him to speak, or who speaks in the name of other gods, that same prophet must die.”


Then the men of the city said to Joash, “Bring out your son. He must die, because he has broken down the altar of Baal, and because he has cut down the Asherah that was by it.”
