For YHWH will strike Israel, as a reed is shaken in the water; and he will root up Israel out of this good land which he gave to their fathers, and will scatter them beyond the River, because they have made their Asherah poles, provoking YHWH to anger.


These two things have happened to you— who will grieve with you?— desolation and destruction, and famine and the sword. How can I comfort you?


When they fast, I will not hear their cry; and when they offer burnt offering and meal offering, I will not accept them; but I will consume them by the sword, by famine, and by pestilence.”


It will happen when they ask you, ‘Where should we go out?’ then you are to tell them, ‘YHWH says: “Those destined for death, to death. Those destined for the sword, to the sword. Those destined for the famine, to the famine. Those destined for captivity, to captivity.”’


“They will die grievous deaths. They will not be lamented, neither will they be buried. They will be like dung on the surface of the ground. They will be consumed by the sword and by famine. Their dead bodies will be food for the birds of the sky and for the animals of the earth.”


“‘“I will make the counsel of Judah and Jerusalem void in this place. I will cause them to fall by the sword before their enemies, and by the hand of those who seek their life. I will give their dead bodies to be food for the birds of the sky and for the animals of the earth.


Whoever remains in this city will die by the sword, by the famine, and by the pestilence, but whoever goes out and surrenders to the Chaldeans who besiege y’all, they will live and escape with their life.


“‘“‘It will happen that I will punish the nation and the kingdom which will not serve the same Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, and that will not put their neck under the yoke of the king of Babylon,’ says YHWH, ‘with the sword, with famine, and with pestilence, until I have consumed them by his hand.


YHWH Almighty says: “Look, I will send the sword, famine, and pestilence on them, and I will make them like rotten figs that can’t be eaten, because they are so bad.


I will pursue them with the sword, famine, and pestilence, and I will deliver them to be tossed back and forth among all the kingdoms of the earth, to be an object of horror, an astonishment, a hissing, and a reproach among all the nations where I have driven them,


“See how siege ramps have been built against the city to take it. The city is given into the hand of the Chaldeans who fight against it, because of the sword, of the famine, and of the pestilence. What you have spoken has happened. Look, you see it!


You have said to me, Lord YHWH, ‘Buy the field for money, and call witnesses;’ whereas the city is given into the hand of the Chaldeans.”


Therefore YHWH says: “Y’all have not obeyed me and proclaimed liberty, every person to their sibling and neighbor. Look! I now proclaim liberty to y’all,” says YHWH, “to the sword, to plague, and to famine! I will make y’all a horror among all the kingdoms of the earth.


Indeed, all who set their faces to go into Egypt to live there will die by the sword, famine, and plague. None of them will remain or escape from the disaster that I will bring on them.’


Now y’all will know-know that you* die by the sword, famine, and plague in the place where y’all desire to go to live.”


They have denied YHWH, and said, “It won’t happen. Evil won’t come on us. We won’t see sword or famine.


Therefore YHWH Almighty, the God of Israel, says, “See, I will feed them, this people, with wormwood and give them poisoned water to drink.


I will scatter them also among the nations, whom neither they nor their ancestors have known. I will send the sword after them, until I have consumed them.”


“You are to tell them, ‘Lord YHWH says: “As I live, surely those who are in the waste places will fall by the sword. I will give whoever is in the open field to the animals to be devoured, and those who are in the strongholds and in the caves will die of the pestilence.


“Lord YHWH says: ‘Strike with your hand, and stamp with your foot, and say, “Alas!”, because of all the evil abominations of the house of Israel; for they will fall by the sword, by the famine, and by the pestilence.


“‘The sword is outside, and the pestilence and the famine within. He who is in the field will die by the sword. He who is in the city will be devoured by famine and pestilence.


YHWH will make the pestilence cling to you, until ʜᴇ has consumed you from off the land where you go in to possess it.


I looked—and there was a pale horse! The one who sat on it was Death, and Hades was following behind him. They were given authority over one fourth of the earth, to kill by the sword, by famine, by death, and by the wild animals of the earth.
