Moreover the word of YHWH came by the prophet Jehu the son of Hanani against Baasha and against his house, both because of all the evil that he did in YHWH’s sight, to provoke him to anger with the work of his hands, in being like the house of Jeroboam, and because he struck him.


They set up for themselves pillars and Asherah poles on every high hill and under every green tree.


They abandoned all the commandments of YHWH their God, and made molten images for themselves, even two calves, and made an Asherah, and worshiped all the army of the sky, and served Baal.


He did that which was right in YHWH’s eyes, according to all that his father Uzziah had done. However he didn’t enter into the temple of YHWH. The people still acted corruptly.


They will not look to the altars, the work of their hands, or respect what their fingers have made, the Asherah poles or the incense altars.


YHWH our God, other lords besides you have had dominion over us, but we will only acknowledge your name.


and have cast their gods into the fire. For they were no gods, but the work of human hands, wood and stone, and therefore they have destroyed them.


An idol? That an artisan casts, and a metalworker overlays with gold and fashions silver chains?


Look, all of their deeds are vanity and nothingness. Their molten images are wind and emptiness.


you who inflame yourselves among the oaks, under every green tree; who kill the children in the valleys, under the clefts of the rocks?


I will utter my judgments against them concerning all their wickedness, in that they have forsaken me, and have burned incense to other gods, and worshiped the works of their own hands.


Your gods, Judah, are as numerous as your cities, and y’all citizens of Jerusalem have set up as many shameful incense altars to Baal as streets in the city.’


“But where are your gods that you have made for yourselves? Let them arise, if they can save you in the time of your trouble, for you have as many gods as you have towns, O Judah.


If Gilead is wicked, surely they are worthless. In Gilgal they sacrifice bulls. Indeed, their altars are like heaps in the furrows of the field.


Now they sin more and more, and have made themselves molten images of their silver, even idols according to their own understanding, all of them the work of the craftsmen. They say of them, ‘They offer human sacrifice and kiss the calves.’


Assyria can’t save us. We won’t ride on horses; neither will we say any more to the work of our hands, ‘Our gods!’ for in you the fatherless finds mercy.”


For this is even from Israel! The workman made it, and it is no God; indeed, the calf of Samaria will be broken in pieces.


I will destroy witchcraft from your hand. You will have no soothsayers.


While Paul waited for them in Athens, his spirit was churning within him because he saw that the city was full of idols.
