Out of that land he went into Assyria, and built Nineveh, Rehoboth Ir, Calah,


Have I now come up without YHWH against this place to destroy it? YHWH said to me, ‘Go up against this land, and destroy it.’”’”


Haven’t you heard how I have done it long ago, and formed it of ancient times? Now I have brought it to pass, that it should be yours to lay waste fortified cities into ruinous heaps.


For the scepter of wickedness won’t remain over the allotment of the righteous, so that the righteous won’t use their hands to do evil.


By your hand, YHWH, deliver me from people from people of the world whose portion is in this life. You will fill their belly with your stores. Their sons will have plenty, and they leave their abundance for their children.


Does an ax brag exalt itself above the one who chops with it? Does a saw make itself important than the one who saws with it? As if a rod should lifting the one who lifts it, or as a staff lifting up the one who isn’t wood.


For in a very little while, my indignation against you will be completed, and my anger will be directed to his destruction.”


They come from a far country, from the uttermost part of heaven, even YHWH, and the weapons of his indignation, to destroy the whole land.


YHWH Almighty has sworn, saying, “Surely, as I have plan, so it will happen, and as I have purposed, so will it stand.


I will break the Assyrian in my land, and tread him under foot on my mountains. Then his yoke will leave them, and his burden leave their shoulders.


Look at the land of the Chaldeans. This people didn’t exist. The Assyrians founded it for those who dwell in the wilderness. They set up their towers. They overthrew its palaces. They made it a ruin.


Come, my people, enter into your rooms, and shut your doors behind you. Hide yourself for a little moment, until the indignation is past.

YHWH will bring on you, on your people, and on your father’s house a time that has not come since day that Ephraim departed from Judah: the king of Assyria!


In that day the Lord will use a razor, hired in the parts beyond the River (the king of Assyria), to shave the head and the hair of pubic area, and it will also consume the beard.
