Look! It was all grown over with thorns. Its surface was covered with nettles, and its stone wall was broken down.


It will happen in that day that the Lord will set his hand again the second time to recover the remnant that is left of his people from Assyria, from Egypt, from Pathros, from Cush, from Elam, from Shinar, from Hamath, and from the islands of the sea.


The princes of Zoan have become fools. The princes of Memphis are deceived. They have caused Egypt to go astray, those who are the cornerstone of her tribes.


In that day that YHWH will thresh grain from the flowing Euphrates to the brook of Egypt, and y’all will be gathered one by one, children of Israel.

In that day that every place where there were a thousand vines worth a thousand shekels of silver, will become briers and thorns.


The children also of Memphis and Tahpanhes have broken the crown of your head.


Now y’all will know-know that you* die by the sword, famine, and plague in the place where y’all desire to go to live.”


The word that came to Jeremiah concerning all the Jews who lived in the land of Egypt, who lived in Migdol, Tahpanhes, Memphis, and in the country of Pathros, saying,


I will take the remnant of Judah that have set their faces to go into the land of Egypt to live there, and they will all be consumed. They will fall in the land of Egypt. They will be consumed by the sword and famine. They will die, from the least even to the greatest, by the sword and famine. They will be an object of horror, an astonishment, a curse, and a reproach.


For I will punish those living in the land of Egypt, as I have punished Jerusalem, by the sword, famine, and plague.


“Y’all declare in Egypt, proclaim in Migdol, and proclaim in Memphis and in Tahpanhes; Y’all are to say, ‘You must take a stand and prepare, for the sword has devoured those around you.’


You daughter who dwells in Egypt, furnish yourself to go into captivity; for Memphis will become a desolation, and will be burned up, without inhabitant.


“‘Lord YHWH says: “I will also destroy the idols, and I will cause the images to cease from Memphis. There will be no more a prince from the land of Egypt. I will put a fear in the land of Egypt.


I will set a fire in Egypt Sin will be in great anguish. No will be broken up. Memphis will have adversaries in the daytime.


The high places of Aven, the sin of Israel, will be destroyed. The thorn and the thistle will grow up over their altars. They will tell the mountains, “Y’all cover us!” and the hills, “Y’all fall on us!”

They won’t dwell in YHWH’s land; but Ephraim will return to Egypt, and they will eat unclean food in Assyria.


I will scatter y’all among the nations, and I will draw out a sword after y’all. Y’all’s land will become desolate, and y’all’s cities will become waste.


Y’all wail, inhabitants of Maktesh, for all the people of Canaan will be silenced! All those who were loaded with silver are cut off.


When the men of Israel saw that they were in trouble (for the people were distressed), then the people hid themselves in caves, in thickets, in rocks, in tombs, and in pits.
