They rose up early on the next day, and offered burnt offerings, and brought peace offerings; and the people sat down to eat and to drink, and rose up to play.


The Lord said, “Because this people draws near with their mouth and honors me with their lips, but they have removed their heart far from me, and their fear of me is a commandment of men which has been taught;


“Now therefore, what do I do here,” says YHWH, “seeing that my people are taken away for nothing? Those who rule over them mock,” says YHWH, “and my name is blasphemed continually all day long.


Look! My servants will sing for joy of heart, but y’all will cry from anguish of the heart, and will wail for a crushed spirit.


You have planted them. Yes, they have taken root. They grow. Yes, they produce fruit. You are near in their mouth, and far from their heart.


Yet for all this her treacherous sister, Judah, has not returned to me with her whole heart, but only in pretense,” says YHWH.


Their heart cried to the Lord. O wall of the daughter of Zion, let tears run down like a river day and night. Give yourself no relief. Don’t let your eyes rest.


Samaria will bear her guilt, for she has rebelled against her God. They will fall by the sword. Their infants will be dashed in pieces, and their pregnant women will be ripped open.”

For such people don’t serve our Lord Jesus Christ, but their own belly. By their smooth and flattering speech, they deceive the hearts of the innocent.

Come now, wealthy ones, y’all should weep and howl for the miseries that are coming upon y’all.
